Tab target

Why is it so bad? I have 4 people near me and it targets the lock 10 miles away. This happens so often. Why doesn’t it target one of the people near me?? Am I doing it wrong or is it failure on blizz to code it correctly? I assume the former

It has been working mostly fine for me, along with stuff like targetnearestenemy and startattaack macros.

It rarely works well for me. So I must be doing something wrong? Are there settings I should change? It’s super annoying.

It’s never been very useful for me to use tab targeting. Always seems to cycle though the entire population of the cosmos before it gets to the people you are in combat with.

It should just target the person closest to me. Kennie - what is that “Targetsnearestenemy” thing? Could I just make a good tab target macro with that?

The only issue with that is you might want to change target to something else, but it could only target the closest enemy.

Well, I suppose that is a very obvious truth I over looked! Lmao!

It might be an option under key binds that you can assign to a different key so you can have access to both. It has been forever since I’ve changed key binds so not 100% sure it’s a bindable option. Otherwise, you could make a macro and assign it that way.

There’s a new option coming out in dragonflight that allows you to auto-target the enemy you’re facing without having to tab, click, or any of that

Yea, I don’t think that would work well in a PvP environment like BGs. Perhaps in a small environment. I’ll likely ignore that.

Sounds pretty good for PvE. But yeah, it’s toggable so you’re not forced to have it on

its horrible. only way to guarantee the right thing is selected is to just click the name plate. unless there’s only like two things you’re tabbing between…

it’s bad on range but its pretty alright for melee i think.

on melee i can predict the behavior pretty well, itll pick the closest in a narrow cone in front of me - but on ranged all kinds of weird things happen.

i can pretty much know which target itll pick with some positioning on my melee toons.

I gave up trying to tab target, especially in large scale pvp, because it cycles through literally every pet or guardian in existence before actually targeting a player.

You can turn off “Target nearest enemy” and switch to “Target nearest enemy player” to avoid getting pets/npcs/etc.

I may check that out, thanks. I’ve gotten used to just clicking on health bars so it may be jarring going back.

I don’t generally have too much trouble with tab target but I’m also hoping that new soft targeting system they’re bringing in df will improve things

All hunters: See it’s not our fault!

It usually works ok, but sometimes in a crowd it’s faster to just click target when you need a specific mob.

My reflexes are so automatic now that I never stop and consciously consider how targeting works. I thought it uses some mix of closest from you and closest to direct line of sight, but that might just be superstition I invented?
