System Requirements please!

It would be nice to know if I can drop my big clunky gaming laptop for a light plastic POS. Thank you!

I’m also very interested in this, as my only pc just barely runs retail, and I’m hoping I see some marked improvement with Classic.

Ahhh… I want to downgrade lol

I’m sure you can, even my POS HP from 2011 can still play the retail version… albeit not very well. Even if they do update graphics for classic I’m sure it still won’t be very demanding.

Yeah, I’d be concerned about downgrading to much though… So the specs would be nice.

For sure, I’m interested as well. I doubt we’ll get anything on that front until a confirmed beta release though at the soonest.

If you can run BFA you can run Classic, same underlying framework. Best place to start IMO.

I agree, I guess I’d just be happy to get top dollar for my laptop while it’s still relevant, which is like for the next week lol

If it can make toast, you’re good.

Haha, it’s not the 1.12 client. It’s be my luck that I’ll buy some clunker, get rid of my gaming laptop, and then not be able to play anything without laying down more money.

Classic WOW will run a little faster, but don’t expect the world. Only because Classic zones have far fewer polygons. Other than that, its running on the modern engine so… it won’t be too different.

But honestly, WOW will run on a rusty paperclip. It doesn’t really push GPUs/APUs/iGPUs very hard. Just tone the GPU settings down a bit and it runs great.

No doubt, I barely used any running Legion at max. I guess I can expect similar CPU performance but less GPU. It’s still hard to calculate when considering a lower end PC. Maybe I should just keep the gaming laptop, it just feels so wasted since I don’t play anything else.

I run retail on a surface pro 3 that is ~4 years old. It completely fills the hard drive, to the point the next patch is going to be a problem, but it currently runs just fine. Whatever you decide to go with will probably work.

That sounds aweful. I may keep the gaming laptop and wait until we get specs to see if I’m comfortable downgrading. I wouldn’t want to set myself up for failure when I have something that’s guaranteed to work.

I’m guilty of over endulging just because the money is there.

To be clear, I also have a Lenovo gaming laptop, but my wife and I play together and when we’re both on at the same time, I use the crappier machine. Just showing that it does not take much to get the game to run. It’s definitely not an optimal experience though.

Given that the alpha is running the 8.X client, I would imagine we’re going to see system reqs very close to the BfA reqs which are…

Minimum Requirements

  • Operating System

Windows® 7 64-bit

  • Processor

Intel® Core™ i5-760 or AMD FX™-8100 or better

  • Video

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560 2GB or AMD™ Radeon™ HD 7850 2GB or Intel® HD Graphics 530 (45W TDP)

  • Memory

4 GB RAM (8GB for Intel HD Graphics 530)

  • Storage

70GB available space 7200 RPM HDD

  • Internet

Broadband internet connection

  • Input

Keyboard and mouse required. Other input devices are not supported.

  • Resolution

1024 x 768 minimum display resolution

I’m not saying that these are the requirements, but the Alpha is running on the 8.X architecture, not 7.3.5, so it’s reasonable to assume the release version will too.

The only requirement we know for sure is that it will require a 64 bit operating system.

It would be nice if I could play on my crappy MacBook Pro 2016 with no graphics card.

I would base the requirements on retail, but the lower models and textures may give your PC a bit less work in the graphics department.

Its not going to be the same requirements as 1.12 which runs on a (modern) potato.

I’d also like to know you we’ll have to dl all of retail or if we can just dl classic alone.

My old one could. I’ll never buy another gaming laptop, that thing got so hot I needed a USB keyboard in summer or it was not remotely comfortable.
