Sylvanus type hero talents

I understand that pets are tied to hunters, but I also think there is some merit to people that would rather play a spec like MM without a pet. I really hope they incorporate hero talents that allow MM hunters to play without a pet. Anyone else?

Both Sentinel and Dark Ranger don’t use pets

Lone wolf is popular, both the hero talents dont require\buff pets i believe so i think its fine. Other than dark ranger summoning dogs but you dont have to micromanage them they just run at your target.

Dark Ranger literally summons pets as one of its core features.
Sentinel also technically summons a pet, but I suppose it’s more of a magical conjuration.

The overarching argument is these Hero Talents don’t really fit existing Hunter fantasies. Which is completely valid.
Personally I’m a fan of pets. But the existing “I’m just an archer” fantasy simply can’t exist in TWW.

It summons an uncontrollable guardian that charges the target. It’s not different than any number of trinkets in game right now (signoll flare, the yazma trinket from last season) and I don’t see people calling those pet trinkets.

I mean, they do. There is just a LOT of hunter fantasies on this forum and in game, and it’s impossible to hit all the “desired” ones.

Pack Leader fits great, Dark Ranger is really requested. I never liked Sentinel but it definitely fits the quintessential Night Elf Hunter, which is probably a large majority of hunter players.

Except for where it has nothing to do with Night Elf Hunters, Huntresses, Archers, or any other unit among the Night Elf Army (“the Sentinels”), instead throwing in random former mage, druid, and priest capacities. /shrug

The Sentinels’ birds were for scouting, not for arcane star-pooping.

sure, but it’s named sentinel and it’s clearly inspired by sentinels and night elves, otherwise it wouldn’t be an owl, or moon, or arcane

Night Elves are not the only group to use scouting birds. More societies with anything resembling a “Hunter” used them than did not. Humans, Dwarves, Taurens, Orcs, Trolls, Quel’dorai, etc.

And outside of Moonfire (which wasn’t considered “Arcane” until WoW), Arcane magics were taboo among Night Elves, since it was previously a cloistered art, the insular users of which summoned the Burning Legion in the War of the Ancients.

Nor is there any particular use of Moonfire among the actual Sentinels, as Druids are not integrated into their armed forces. Nor are Elunite Priests and their Starshards/Starfall.

  • Unlike some of the northern Dwarven clans, some Human armies, and the Quel’dorai forces, their military structure is solely physical beyond innate magics (which is mostly just Shadowmeld).

yes? I didn’t say that. it uses lunar magic and owls, that’s night elf-y.

the actual sentinels are just night elf soldiers. nothing else. that’s why months ago i asked for it to be renamed but people on this forum didn’t like that suggestion

I dont get why people are so picky about the hero talent name of all things.

No, like the Sunstriders, they’re an organization. One with very few alternatives as a militant Night Elf, but an organization nonetheless.

They are nearly the whole of the Night Elves’ standing army, but a large part of night elves nonetheless capable of (coordinated) combat are not part of it nor would they be easily integrated into it. The Sentinels’ tactics revolve around guerilla warfare, guiding armies into killing fields for larger engagements, and the rare anti-infantry artillery.

It’s the same as if your “Rider of the Apocalypse” isn’t one of the riders of the apocalypse nor imitates their powers but instead just gets random help from them, a Spellbreaker had nothing to do with spells or breaking, a Pack Leader had a “pack” of just one other member and followed rather than led. Except in this case it has nothing to do with the namesake, rather than including at least some matter of that namesake but merely uses the wrong head noun.

Yes. Primary arm of. Not the whole. With zero non-innate magics. Whereas the hero talent has nothing but magics and a tuning knob.

I think you misunderstood me, as per the sourced wiki it’s just the primary night elf military. there’s nothing else about it. there’s nothing special. You listed that they do like guerilla things / divide and conquer, but that’s not really something that translates to an MMO nor is it any sort of sentinel specific tactic, nor is it really demonstrated in game that much

I don’t like the hero tree, I don’t like how niche it is, and I don’t like how it only applies to one race (and mostly one gender)
