Consider the fact that the infinite dragonflight are corrupted bronze dragons led by a future Nozdormu who was corrupted by the old gods… Also consider that Sylvanas comes into possession of Xal’atath in 8.2. We may have killed Murozond in the future, but in order for him to exist, the present Nozdormu must be corrupted at some point in the future. In fact, when you kill Murozond, Nozdormu himself says that he will someday be corrupted. Murozond and the infinite flight will still be born someday, and I think that the one who will corrupt them may be Sylvanas, Xal’atath, and N’Zoth, the last remaining old god.
I propose that BFA will end with Sylvanas making a deal with Xal’atath and/or N’zoth to corrupt Nozdormu in order to form the infinite dragonflight. Why? Because when an undead dies, their soul goes to the void. It makes sense that Sylvanas would want to get on the good side of influential void creatures and make a bargain which could save the undead from their inevitable fate when they die. Sylvanas is also out of options to save herself now that she doesn’t have enough Val’kyr to rez herself if she dies. Sure, corrupting a dragonflight may be an unforgivable act, but if doing so would save her and her people from an afterlife of eternal torment, why wouldn’t she make such a deal? An extra bonus which might sweeten the deal for her is that the time travel abilities of the infinite flight would give her an opportunity to go back and kill Arthas or even Ner’Zhul, the original Lich King. She would have a chance to prevent her own undeath and the spread of the plague, altering her fate completely. It’s not unbelievable that she would jump at the chance to make such a deal.
You may think that Sylvanas would never willingly help the old gods corrupt Azeroth, but consider what the old gods may have told her and what the mag’har may have told her about the light. We saw in the alternate future draenor that the light has convinced the draenei to go on a crusade and forcibly convert everyone into a lightforged. What if the light is more sinister and evil than the void ever was? What if the “evils” of the void is just propaganda spread by agents of the light? The light could be trying corrupt the universe by giving itself a reputation as a “good” and “positive” force in order to convince mortals to willingly let the power of the light into themselves. The light could be the most sinister and diabolical force in the universe, but it conceals its true intentions very well. It could very well be that the void may be the only thing powerful enough to challenge the tyranny of the light, and its plan to corrupt a world-soul is its last resort to bring the void lords in to end the war between shadow and light and save the universe.
You may be thinking, “If the void so so good, why does it torture the souls of the undead?” Well, that is because everyone, including the light and the void, see the undead as abominations. Perhaps the souls of the undead would suffer no matter where they went after death due to their souls being tainted by the magic of undeath. The necromantic magic tainting their souls may be what attracts the void to attack the undead when they die. Perhaps the void would honor their bargain with Sylvanas purging the undeads’ souls of the necromantic magic tainting them, freeing their souls to go to the afterlife they were meant to have.
TLDR:
- The light is actually evil, but conceals its true intentions and tries to appear as a “good” and “positive” force.
- The void might be the only thing strong enough to stop it.
- The void plans to corrupt Azeroth as a last resort to summon the Void Lords and save the universe from the light.
- Undead souls go to the void when they die.
- Sylvanas no longer has enough Val’kyr to save her from the void if she dies again.
- Sylvanas makes a deal with
&
to save herself/her people from an afterlife of eternal torment in exchange for corrupting Nozdormu.
