In shadowlands we might have a tale of redemption. Of a missunderstood leader
Picture it the faction wars boil over till it was at gate of her city. The leader of a splinter horde faction came to start civil war and unrest. In a selfless act she cuts the head viper in an honorable dual.
It’s rather noble of her to leave before any further violances
escalated
She then sought a greater threat to her people. That’s right the new lich king. Going fourth and smiting him before history repeat itself liked with Arthis. Remember she lost her home land because of him, and lost her 2nd home because of this Alliance aggression under the command of the warhawk Anduin .
After preempt strike to stop the savage elves from plotting right next to her door step of orgrimmar. So you see technically she still the warchief and still fighting for the horde best interest.
And most are hoping it doesn’t end in a redemption cliche she was right the whole time garbage we have been denied taking Nathano’s head especially for Nelves last thing we need are Gilneans to still be denied their justice and on top of that Nelves heck she sent assassins to kill Thrall for pete sakes no excusing that.
I honestly can’t say they aren’t setting her up for redemption, because who knows with Blizzard’s writers, but if they are the way they’re going about it is truly baffling.
First they have her attempt genocide. Then they have her attempt to assassinate basically every other popular character in the game. Then they reveal that everybody she kills is going to Hell, and that her motive in doing so is boosting her own power. Like… I honestly do not know how they could make her more evil if they tried.
The only thing people can ever point out in her defense is “But the Jailer!” But even then, how are they going to make him worse than her? Hell, she’s doing his job for him! I guess it’ll be some vague thing where he’s supposedly trying to do everything she’s currently doing on an even bigger scale and that’s supposed to justify her actions, but he literally can’t destroy as much stuff as Sylvanas already has or the game would be over.
I just can’t imagine Blizzard would actually turn Sylvanas pure evil and kill her off, as she is a relatively popular character even with the hits she’s taken from WoW’s terrible writing. But if they’re planning to redeem her, why are they trying to make her the most vile character ever written? It doesn’t make any sense to me. When you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
Too many fans are overly emotionally invested in their wow waifu, so they have to make sure she beats everyone and is redeemed somehow, they can’t have us kill people favorite body pillow.
But all the best characters in a good story are the truly evil ones. My Sylvanas loyalist wants his waifu to be as evil as possible without any redemption!
If it turned out she was being manipulated or controlled - to an extent, I could possibly see a redemption.
But if she uses the reason “It was merely for the greater good!” I swear …
If THAT happens. Then I’m sailing with Tyrande to steal The Focussing Iris and together we’re going to tsunami Orgrimmar; then reviveTheradras in Mulgore - turning it into a ravaged wasteland like ‘Mashan’she’ when it was turned into ‘Desolace’ for Therazane’s approval in a deal to cause a cataclysmic quake to cause multiple rivers sliver through The Barrens making it flush with life, allowing Ashenvales Forests to extend their reach and thus an advantage for the Nightelves – with new dangers, along with the quakes causing a chasm opening for the Centaur to come through and hunt the Horde by the numbers, for those remaining after the fury …
I don’t think so. I think when she acted stupidly and killed everyone in that tree, the moral grey area went into the black.
She was written to be a jackass, which is strange because she didn’t seem to start out that way.
The only other thing would be if someone was pretending to be her all along. That would explain her odd, about-face behaviour and give her a redemption arc of sorts.
Still, I wouldn’t like to see her redeemed. It’d be too cliche, cheesy and just weird.
Unfortunately, I think you’re right. The writers, despite all the past bad writing, are going to finally make me completely disinterested in the lore by excusing genocide.
Off topic: I’m really curious whether you picked the name yourself or you copied it from the internet or something, At first I read it as leader but then lingxiu sounds like a girl’s name in some wuxia novel.
Btw I couldn’t see how decimating a huge chunk of a race (mostly civilians) is a just a mistake, or a moral grey area.
Ofcourse it would. Maybe not to an extent Arthas brought. But the helmet corrupts its wearer.
The only reason Bolvar wore it because he knew he’d be a weaker Lich King more easily disposed off if necessary again.
In recent events he already justifies raising new DKs to do his bidding, this is already a dark path he started to enter the moment he did that. And I believe in the Legion campaign there is a whole lot more lich king traits he adopted.
Your right. How dare those hostile foreigners, the Night Elves invaders invade Ashenvale. Clearly Sylvanas had no choice but to wipe them out. If only they’d sued for peace, perhaps then Delaryn would be resting in peace.
