Sylvanas vs. Arthas Lich King

Per the Shadowlands trailer, if Sylvanas has gone to Icecrown and it was the Arthas version of the Lich King with Frostmourne she faces instead of Bolvar, does she still win?

Yes, they need her “story” to continue into Shadowlands so plot armour wins regardless of whomever she faces.

Yeah, Sylvanas is hopped up on Jailer juice.

Doubtful. In just a 1v1? Arthas was much stronger than Bolvar for a couple reasons.

  • Unlike Bolvar, Arthas wasn’t alive when he reached Icecrown Citadel. He had made the conversion to Undead prior. This gives him unending stamina and a stronger connection with his necrotic powers, something which Bolvar does not have, as Bolvar isn’t undead. A common misconception of course. Bolvar is just a crispy human.
  • Arthas was in possession of the Helm of Domination and Frostmourne at the same time. Two relics of the Runecarver that are also connected to the Jailer himself.

Eh. They’re all as powerful as the plot needs them to be.

Arthas is level 80 and sylvanas is 130, don’t see this being much of a challenge

We don’t have enough information on what kind of power and how much of it Sylvanas has gotten from her pact with the Jailer or whoever massively amped her up.

Sylvanas gained her new powers from the same entity that likely powers the Lich King helm, Sylvanas would beat any of the Lich Kings present because of that reason alone. It’s not a statement of Arthas’s abilities vs. Sylvanas’s abilities, it’s just a lore point of order.

The Jailer model makes it very clear that he is the “true” Lich King, the Helm is literally a model of his own body. The runes carved into his skin decorate Frostmourne.

Yes because it’s #HerTime.

Sylvanas shouldn’t have been able to beat Bolvar or Saurfang in melee combat, much less Arthas with Frostmourne.

She was given an arbitrary power boost from the jailer and they’ve not clarified the limits of that.

I assume at this point, the writers would have her beat just about anybody to show off how “powerful” she is.

Then again, Sylvanas is not the kind of character that would enter a game she hadn’t rigged ahead of time. That’s the ruthless pragmatic character she’s always been.

It’s the mustache-twirling cartoon villain stuff that’s new (and terrible).

Debatable, I’m not sure if Bolvar had the full power of the Lich King at that moment, plus with Frostmourne trashed a significant amount of power is lacking there too. If Bolvar had Frostmourne he might have had a chance maybe… But the crown? It seems to just be a tool of the master which Sylvanas is working with.

People forget Arthas was one of THE best fighters in the Warcraft 3, post Warcraft 3 lore… Unlike Bolvar, Arthas has a canon kill count that includes power warriors, paladins, and mages.

I mean, couldn’t he just re-enslave Slyvanas since he wouldn’t need to sandbag anymore?

Sylvanas wins always. Yes she’s died multiple times but she always comes back badder and meaner. :+1:

It’d be one thing if she rigged the contest, but what we got is that she went into a duel with Saurfang and was playing with him. She wasn’t even struggling against him and she was using melee combat, which she’s never been seen to be particularly amazing at.

and this was against one of the best warriors on Azeroth.

It was just a BS power boost so that they can force the story into Shadowlands.

Yeah, but what you’re missing is that Sylvanas without that powerup would never have engaged Saurfang in a Mak’gora, she would have put an arrow in his eye from the battlements and this whole thread would be moot and everyone would just complain that Sylvanas doesn’t fight “with honor.”

I wish it had gone down that way, at least it would have been funny.

And then Orgrimmar gets sieged. Again. That didn’t go so well for the last person that tried to hold up in there. Just saying.

I’m not missing anything. I get she only went into it because of the power boost.

I’m saying that the entire premise of an arbitrary power boost that they’ve barely even explained is stupid. Especially considering that she’s now apparently at the point where she can best Saurfang in hand to hand combat and it’s not even remotely close when he’s one of the best warriors on Azeroth and she’s using a fighting style she’s not a master of and didn’t use her banshee powers until the very end.

That she went in with a plan doesn’t make me excuse the entire rest of the stuff going on.

Hard no a lot of these people forget the jailor is a spit on the lore and even going off.of him arthas made sylvanas what she is ,bolvar fought the power he had arthas embraced it and plus had much more of it with frost Mourne and all else of arthas was still alive why would the jailer need sylvanas ? Food for thought but no the banshee would never be able to stand to arthas and she even knows that
