Sylvanas serves who?

maybe needless to say but spoilers…

… But Sylvanas seems to be working for Death. Originally I was thinking this was some Death God that we have not seen before, but thinking about it, it is probably Yogg-Saron.

“Bow down before the God of Death.”

She did get impaled by Saronite that one time, and that also seemed to be when her personality began to change. Sylvanas claims to have made a pact with Azshara, so what are the odds Yoggy and N’zoth are working together? At least… Momentarily…. I think its pretty likely.

Normally I’d be suspect, but given that Yoggy was at odds with N’Zoth before the Pantheon came, there might be a legitimate theory here.

Really? You’re gonna try this like a thousand years after it was a thing?

Yogg-Saron. The great devourer. The self proclaimed God of Death. The one who’s blood Sylvanas splatted herself against. The one who’s title is “Hope’s End ”. The one who turned Loken, who in turn “turned Heyla ” (according to Xal). The one who’s returned to the halls of Uldaur as of Legion.

ALL PLACES. ALL THINGS HAVE SOULS. ALL SOULS CAN BE DEVOURED.”

I think Sylvanas’ end game is going to be betraying Helya and usurping her station. We already know from Legion that Helya cannot truly die since she is “death” and if Sylvanas can position herself into a state of immortality she will never need to worry about her afterlife. Helya is also the death deity most heavily associated with Val’kyr and Sylvanas’ post-wrath story has been defined by them.

You know, this makes me think.

What if she already did, or started the process? Last we saw of Helya, she was dead. All we know is “you cannot kill death”. What happened between us beating up Helya and now, we don’t see. What we do know, however, was that Sylvanas had some kind of deal with Helya of which the details are still unknown, which ties Sylvanas directly to Helya. We also know she has a bunch of new powers she didn’t show before that are tied to an unknown dark magic.

Herself of course

Some death entity that she’ll inevitably try and backstab.

Nope. It’s not Yog. She calls it Death with a capital D which denotes a proper noun. Death is an entity. If it were Yog Saron she would’ve just said it instead of being all mysterious. This is someone new.

Helya is the obvious answer.

The Hungering Dark. That’s who she claims all the souls lost in BFA have been fed to. Take it as you will but that seems to be the closest we’re getting to the identity of her mysterious benefactor for the moment.

As for the deal with Helya, I’ve decided it must have been the opposite of the one Sylvanas had with the other Valkyrie. I think when Sylvanas does she’ll take Helya’s place as keeper of the Kavaldir and the other drowned and damned souls, while Helya will be set free to take her vengeance on Odyn.

Trust is your weakness.
Hope is an illusion.
All that you know will fade.
You will be alone in the end.

You resist. You cling to your life as if it actually matters. You will learn.

Let hatred and rage guide your blows!

BOW DOWN BEFORE THE GOD OF DEATH!

Look upon the true face of death, and know that your end comes soon!

Yogg-Saron stuff. Sounds very very similar to what Sylvanas has been saying this expansion.

Life is pain. Hope fails.

The Horde is nothing. You are all nothing.

Standing as one. Savor it. Nothing lasts.

Countless souls have been fed to the hungering Darkness.

Despite all I taught them, they stubbornly clung to hope, to life.

In the end he too with serve Death

I didn’t realize that she almost quoted him verbatim.

I forgot to type it up but she actually completes it the same way.

Yogg:

You resist. You cling to your life as if it actually matters. You will learn.

Sylvanas:

…despite all I taught them, they stubbornly clung to hope, to life. They will learn the truth along with all the rest.

Of course if Yogg-Saron is the true enemy that means that Alleria has been listening to not the Void Lords but N’Zoth(which she in the War Campaign Finale claims to be hearing) ever since she returned to Azeroth.

What is your take Yvenathilm? You are the resident Old God scholar. Who does Sylvanas serve?

I thought Old Gods were Void aligned… The lore is making less and less sense as we go on.

Old Gods are Void aligned. N’Zoth is Void-based and C’Thun along with Y’Shaarj all have Void Blood.

Yogg-Saron the God of Death is the only Old God besides G’huun whose blood isn’t pure Void like the others… He is an anomaly.

G’huun was an artificial Old God(and thus has Underrot for Blood) while Yogg-Saron(who has Saronite for Blood) is either a traditional Old God that somehow became Death-empowered or a giant Necrofiend(you see them during the Tauren Heritage Questline) thrown at Azeroth from the Shadowlands by the personification of Death to serve as it’s Avatar.
