Sylvanas killing Zelling change anyone's mind?

It is so sad to see that Blizzard ruined all Horde’s character in BFA.
Before this expansion I loved Sylvanas, Baine and Saurfang and I still love them for what they were. But now everyone either hate Sylvanas or Baine and Saurfang or even all of them just because of this stupid writing.

You’re right. This is especially true for Saurfang.

I thought Zelling was one of the few interesting Forsaken characters from this expansion as his entire “creation” was done to show just what being turned could do to someone, what it costs them, but at the very least didn’t change who they fundamentally where.

One of the few Forsaken characters with actual character.

Now he’s dead to reinforce Sylvanas is totally not like Garrosh. Which is depressing.

Zelling was not Forsaken. He was weak.

He belongs in the dirt.

He was a traitor, just like Baine.

Twice over in this case because he betrayed the Kul Tirans and then the Horde.

Never really cared for him.

I’m hearing this viewpoint more and more, and it is pointless to have it.

This is current Blizzard, you realize? I wouldn’t put it past them to take all this sudden loyalty to Sylvanas as genuine. What happens then? Well the retcons of course! Suddenly everyone in the Horde was secretly always evil, only a handful of them actually were good people. That is what you wanted, right?

Look, I sympathize, I really do. But this is a company that I have lost any faith in all in the space of a single expansion it seems. If I were a clever one, I’d try to invent a word to say just how inept/tonedeaf/sheltered they were.

I’m actually not sure why Zelling helps in the first place, wasn’t his whole stick about being forsaken to protect his family. Sure Sylvanas was being her weird self again but that seems like a pretty big risk.
I liked Zelling too and it just seems like he was tossed away so Blizzard can narratively point fingers of “omg look how evil Sylvanas is”. A shame really.

Although it did made me realize that I really don’t care about Sylvanas or whatever she’s doing, I don’t care for Saurfangs muh honor line. I love the side stories this expack but the main storyline just isn’t very engaging for me.

I think I just want this story to narratively blow over to the next expack already so I can go fight the void or something.

This thread is a good depiction of the Sylvanas fandom being a cult.

“My obviously evil character is being depicted as evil! SPITE! THAT’LL SHOW ‘EM!”

Killing Zelling is actually an IC action of Sylvanas. I think we all agree that his death is only to antagonize her even more, a move that is clearly not working. Expect more “EVULZ MUAHAHAHAHA” from her.

Helluva reach, citing resentment and calling it a cult.

Beautifully put, you as always concise and to the point.

Take my like Mr., you absolutely deserve it.

Wrong, we refuse to endorse the blatant “Horde can’t figure out the meaning and importance of fighting to keep their breed of Honor without Alliance prominent heroes /pacifists telling them how to” narrative being pushed with these two Horde characters that can potentially kill Sylvanas. For God sake Yagarr!!! It’s THE LACK of a Mak’gora the thing that outraged us against Sadfang in the first place…

To put it in perspective: these are sad times indeed when the Orc protagonist acts OOC and tries to hide instead of confront his perceived enemy while the Belf makes remarks worthy of Doomhammer (say whatever you want from the dirty Lor’themar, but his “we need to address this… carefully” reminds me a lot of Doomhammer waiting for the best chance to put an axe on Blackhand’s back. At this rate I see a higher probability of Sylvanas gaining a dagger in the back coming from the Belf than from Sadfang… That’s as awful as the plot became.

Zelling was obviously created specifically to make people hate Sylvanas. He’s so good and sweet! He loves his family more than anything! How could anyone hate this tragic hero? Maybe he could have been a good character, but Blizzard wasn’t attempting to make him one. He was born to be a crass villain bat lever.

As mentioned above, he JUST got done killing hundreds of KT citizens to give his family witness protection. But then he decides to sacrifice his family’s safety for the sake of Jaina Proudmoore’s brother who he’s never met. ok…

So screw him.

Nope. Granted I don’t have a high opinion of Sylvanas as a character but nothing in BFA has changed my mind on her. To me I don’t see a ‘shift’ in her character, I just see the consequences of Sylvanas being the monarch of one of the two world powers, rather than having to try and be subtle in the background.

Critiquing critique is a exercise in futility as well; don’t be a hypocrite.

Let’s assume the other side of the coin, I keep critiques to my myself and just roll with what Blizzard does atm despite not liking it. How is that any better?

My overall stance is spite for Blizzard’s current narrative direction yes, but it is born out of nonsensical incompetent narrative in the first place. Do I believe Sylvanas as she is in BfA to what she was before (last depicted in Legion) to be natural character growth? No I do not. Do I roll with Forsaken now suddenly living in a totalitarian society all along (and being unable to clap for)? No I do not.

“But Blizzard doesn’t read the Story Forums” I’m well aware, that doesn’t rob me of my choice to complain; atop that I’ve already made my vote financially in my sub expiring since mid-February. I’m here because I’m so far allowed to continue posting. As such, I’ll continue making my discontent known.

I’d like to say that going to any other part of the forum to voice these concerns would work, but sadly they do not. Even Twitter it’d be brushed aside, if even seen at all.

The only way to get them hear your spite, is to do what you’ve done and unsubscribe. That is the tone of voice you use to get them to listen. And while such things get piled alongside other reasons for unsubbing, they do at least contribute to the fact that, if they want that 15 bucks, they will have to address that elephant.

Sorry if I come off like jerk with that statement, but current Blizzard only cares about sub numbers, pure and simple. And if they do decide to go off that metric of picking Sylvanas or Saurfang, I can see them taking it all at face value and just dumping over everything to justify it. Why? cause the current devs save the art and sound team are morons.

Not remotely.
They are going to do a batman gambit with Sylvie, where she had a long-term goal in mind that required her to do horrible, insufferable things in order to accomplish some overarching goal that saves all of Azeroth. I believe the writers when they say she will not be Garrosh 2.0. This will be a sudden revelation that she did all of this for the good of the Horde, and probably Azeroth at large.
It is the same story as Illidan, but in reverse, where instead of his horrible acts committed in order to save his people being well-known and slowly extrapolated on as it was in Legion, we will suddenly and with immesurable force have it thrown down upon us that Sylvanus was good all along… or at least had good ends, if terrible means.

Blizzard: Let’s introduce a relatable Forsaken character, we haven’t really done that before.

Also Blizzard: Let’s murder him to get Horde players to hate Sylvanas more.

nope, I want my old Sylvanas back, the one that schems and think before taking action, the one that act with reason and since now they’re making her the enemy of all, i just want to skip this expansion and go head on into the neutral one…

and I’ll support her whatever it takes, she can kill even me the PC and i still will support her, nothing in this game can change the memories I have from the banshee that tricked 3 armies and captured the capital city of Lordaeron for her own, and i’ll never forget the ‘‘fool’’ she was when alive defending Quel’thalas, so in spite with the current story i’ll support her in whatever situation we may come to face! hail the legion, void, death, scourge, naga or horde, i’ll follow her in any path.
