The hype for the next expansion died the moment she broke the Helm of Domination. I was really excited for the Lich King’s return, and I think Sylvanas becoming the Lich King would’ve been more interesting.
Instead we get Sylvanas owning an icon of the orcs and the humans (Saurfang and Bolvar) and spearheading yet another expansion.
I feel sorry for the night elf fans.

Not really. She had to start a world war to empower herself with enough death magic to beat Bolvar.
Mary Sue’s start off with that amount of power they never have to work for it or fail at anything. Sylvanas has failed many times and she had to work to get this power.
You wont shes going to usurp Death and we will likely never see her again after Shadowlands.

Err dude? You lost the part where she abandoned the Horde right? Cause she kinda did.
But I will agree that her being more powerful than the lich freaking king and farting new powers for plot convinience is annoying.

i guess that her powers can be explained with the deaths of the world war she started, so in the end, she started her mass murder to get more power.
Now, how she knew how to do that is another whole story.

So why didn’t Sylvanas just walk up to Arthas and kill him back in Wrath of the Lich King? Seems like she’d have had no problem with it considering she just took on an army of undead and tore the Helm of Domination in half.
This expansion is a huge blow to the established lore (which has been on a downward spiral for years now). I daresay it’s the nail in the coffin.

I don’t think she’s anyone self insert so I wouldn’t call her a Sue.
A poorly written void that consumes all sensible plot and the characterization of others around her is more precise.

She wasn’t strong enough back then and she was still afraid of Death. She has been using a world war to empower herself with more and more death magic.
I believe her goal is to have us defeat Death so she can usurp his power.

Fair enough.
When she took her own life in Edge of Night that definitely changed her, and she has some unknown power source we’ll likely learn about over the course of the next expansion.
Whatever it is, I don’t think it’s interesting enough to justify using up N’Zoth (in the next patch) or squandering the Lich King. Those are two huge lore villains they’ve now pulled the trigger on. I’m not a fan of having Sylvanas as the main antagonist for yet another expansion over them.

And people downvoted me hard on the trash subreddit when I said the BfA picture showing Anduin and Sylvanas staring at each other was impossible to take seriously because they’re both such massive Mary Sues.

Both Sylvanas and Anduin technically aren’t Mary Sues, but they do check off an unhealthy amount of boxes on the “Traits of a Mary Sue” chart. This is an example of poor writing.
Both of their current stories are a cancer to this game, but for different reasons.

Who cares. Everything that thought it was the tops get slammed by us eventually.
Sylvanas just happens to be particularly slippery.
Sylvanas is in a weird place, right on the tightrope tilting between being an insufferable Villain Sue and being astonishingly Stupid Evil.
She’s apparently had an agenda building since Legion at latest, which we’ve only gotten bare hints of until now. The mystery of her plans’ exact nature has been treated with utter indifference by lore fans, and when it’s full breadth is revealed at last no one will care anymore. Like the identity of Red Hulk. Nobody liked him when he came out of nowhere and started trouncing all of Marvel’s heavy hitters for no discernible reason. Simply being powerful and exercising that power does not a good character or entertaining story make.
She makes unintuitive, counterproductive decisions and warps the Horde into obeying those decisions without hesitation. She leads them into poorly-conceived conflict for a stated reason, only to then make a seemingly stupid decision out of spite in the heat of the moment rendering all that effort moot. But ho! It was merely an act. What appeared to be the embarrassment-fueled tantrum of an elementary schooler was in fact just part of the plan or something.
I never really cared that much for Sylvanas. Even back in Cataclysm when the controversy started piling on, I didn’t have strong feelings one way or the other. But BFA has made me utterly sick of seeing Sylvanas and SL has not fixed that one bit. I just want her to go away. Because Sylvanas is basically the focal point that all the story issues for this expansion revolve around.

No, sylvanas is not the problem, in the end she is just a character.
The problem is that the useless writters that didn’t lost their job after teldrassil are still here, doing the same crap or worse.
