Sylvanas' eye color (Story discussion)

This is a thread discussing the state of Sylvanas post raid cinematic. Please do not post here with your anti-Sylvanas rants as this is not the thread for it and not the subject being discussed. I am only interested in talking about Sylvanas and the things that happened to her recently and what it means regarding her current state.

So Sylvanas’ eyes have been red ever since she died and recovered her body, right? In the cinematic, we see her eyes turn blue again which if I’m not mistaken are the color of her eyes before she died to Arthas. I’m wondering if this means she is in fact alive again and if her undead curse by Arthas has been removed. I’m also wondering if in the coming months we will see her in game begin to change back to her living body. If all of this is true then it has me very excited for what happens next. What do you think the eye color change means and do you think Sylvanas is alive again or still undead?

Hard to say for sure. My first thought was that she was being returned to life. But I feel like they wouldn’t have left that quite so ambiguous. Like we might have seen a change in skin colour as well. Given it was just the eyes I’m betting still undead, but a different state of undeath. Maybe more akin to the death knights, and not the wholly unfeeling death machine she’s been for a long while now. Either way I expect it will signal some significant change in her character.

I think she is alive again, her skin will slowly change color as her health is restored. Her eye color change was likely due to the aura of her soul changing.

Now for my fan theory, in the end she sacrifices her soul to save everyone, as a result she either dies or resumes being the banshee queen.

When I first saw her eyes change color I had actually forgot when they were last this color until I looked it up and realized its her eye color from when she was alive. I don’t know if there has ever been anyone that has ever had the undead curse lifted from them. Maybe the jailer has the power to do this? He took Sylvanas’ soul to begin with and it seems he has the power to restore them. If the whole undead curse thing is his doing then I assume he has the power to undo it. Maybe the Jailer thought he was being even more cruel by restoring Sylvanas back to life but then leaving her at the mercy of those who have been looking for her.

My first reaction is that the Jailer infused her with some Maw magic.

My first thought was - because I have read or heard something alike a while ago - that the jailer gave back the part of Sylvanas’ soul that was initially captured by Frostmourn (wielded by Arthas).

Wonder if we’ll see a fight with all 3 Windrunner Sisters in their own cinematic working together with Light, Shadow, and Void.

That is what I am thinking. Now it seems she is, or could be, whole again. This could mean so many things including an entirely different personality change for Sylvanas. You could hear it in her voice before she fell unconscious. That wasn’t the same Sylvanas we had from the past few expansions. I am super excited to see what happens next.

Probably she will be locked away after all she’s done so far. Executing might be a dumb idea, because of all the information she might hold against Zovaal. Super curious too!

I think she’s coming back to life unlike all the denizens of Teldrassil that she killed in a massive genocide. Now that she’s coming back to life, we can save the world with the power of friendship.

I actually think she may have the Arbiter decide what happens to her at the end of SL which may cause the SL to change how they do their entire process of soul judgement. Sylvanas did some bad things in death, but in life she did not. Who she is now (if she’s alive again) I assume will strongly reflect who she was before she dies.

Also thanks to everyone so far who has kept this on subject and not resorted to taking it upon themselves to try to divert it from what is being discussed here. To the one that hasn’t, show a little more respect next time and stop thinking every thread about Sylvanas is your place to bash her character. Posts like this will be flagged if you attempt to divert or cause strife here.

Are you talking about me? You realize there is a story forum right? That would be the place for this discussion. You can try to flag me all you want but I was still putting input into the discussion and not trolling. Sorry if sarcasm ruffled your feathers.

This story arc is pitiful and people acting like it was a huge twist. Out of ALL the things she’s done and seen. Hearing ‘Serve’ pushed her over the limit? That was it? What did she think would happen when she tried to use the Jailer’s power against him? Just let her die already. The past few expansions have been about Sylvanas. We NEED something new.

Yes I am and I made it clear in my OP that this thread is not the place for your anti-Sylvanas posts of any kind. You completely ignored that and used it as an opportunity to insert your hatred for Sylvanas. Be a little more respectful next time.

How about this. I will be “a little more respectful next time” when you post in the correct forum. This is General Discussion and my thoughts on the cinematic are a general discussion piece. You don’t just make the rules of who posts what in your thread.

I gave my input on the whole matter. Sylvanas is coming back to life. Redemption story arc and they’re justifying mass genocide.

I’m not trying to be a jerk but I’m tired of Blizzard’s White Knight’s saying I can’t have an opinion. BFA was meh. SL is Terrible. What’s next? The one expansion to end them all?

You could’ve said that in your first post. You literally proved my point with why you posted here. You don’t care that you think this is the wrong forum for it. You wanted to post your hatred for Sylvanas in another place you saw an opportunity to.

This is the first thread I’ve commented in about the cinematic? Who cares what I say anyway. I’m not looking to argue about a terrible story arch. I can’t wait until she floats away because she’s sad in 9.2.

Also, introducing: 9.2: The Lichiest Lich King (break in case of emergency, working title)

I made a simple request in my OP to not post anything that is anti-Sylvanas or that would divert the discussion from the subject at hand which in particular is her eye color change and what that means for her character going forward. You literally ignored that and took it upon yourself to be a selfish jerk to post your anti Sylvanas bull crap. You’re just another broken record spewing the same old genocide crap everyone else is that hates Sylvanas right now and its literally beyond ridiculous at this point. You said you’re not looking to argue about what you consider a “terrible story arch.” Why don’t you prove it by moving along and not posting here again unless you actually have something substantive to say ABOUT the subject I made mention in my OP.

I really think the eye color change is great for the story because it’s setting up to show us that Sylvanas’ story is finally coming to a close. I think she’s going to come back to life and be like “Oh man. I did some bad stuff.” Then I think at the end of the expansion she’s going to sacrifice herself; which everyone on Azeroth and Earth will cheer for, because the impossible finally happened.

Sylvanas was no longer an important character.

Better? Okay… anyway… I’m going to bed. I don’t care any more.

Sylvanas has been a fundamentally important character to WoW’s story since she first appeared in a Warcraft game. Even if she were to sacrifice herself at the end of SL for some greater good, she would still exist in some capacity and there would still be those screaming because she still exists within the story. I highly doubt her story is coming to a close. If anything it could be setting up for a new beginning for her and being a big part of WoW’s story going forward in a much different way than she has before. Sylvanas getting her soul back is a very big deal. We’ll have to wait and see what they decide to do with her now going forward.

I think she’s still technically undead, but she has her soul back. Her soul was stolen by Frostmourne. It seemed that all those souls were trapped in the blade, but the Jailer seems to be able to reach into a pocket dimension to pull them out. So he gave her soul back to her. Which could mean any number of metaphysical issues regarding regret and other stuff.

But I don’t think they changes the fact she’s a banshee and still undead. Technically liches have souls too, they just keep them somewhere else, but they’re still undead.
