Sylvanas' Ending (Spoilers)

So after watching that cinematic, that was actually kind of cool. First non-rendered cinematic that I actually was impressed by, glad that the technology’s getting better, and hoping it improves further into next expansion.
But onto the story, despite my fears all expansion long about Tyrande being mistreated or cast aside after her Night Warrior storyline came to an end, I’m actually extremely happy with this ending on both Tyrande and Sylvanas’ parts. It retires a character that once upon a time was beloved by many and now finally gets to leave the spotlight, where no more damage can be done to her reputation, and it actually concludes Tyrande’s Shadowlands arc perfectly. Aside from the Jailer’s “you can’t escape what is coming blah blah” speech, this final story patch isn’t littered with misplaced mentions of future threats or potential setups, and that’s a great change from BfA. It means wherever 10.0 takes us, it doesn’t need to rely on these characters that, although great lore characters, are suffering from overexposure. Give Tyrande, Jaina, Baine, Thrall, and Anduin the rest they deserve, close the book on Sylvanas in a way that feels bittersweet, but still correct, and move on to tell interesting stories about Azeroth unbound by these characters that have been written by different writers for over 15 years.

I like the part where she quickly pops into postition during a change in camera angle.
Shows her flexibility as a character.

She should have been made the jailer forever and be stuck in the maw instead, never to come back to azeroth. Someone needs to control the damned after all and keep a new baddie in the maw from getting power. Would have been the most ironic punishment.

I liked this cinematic a lot, technically and thematically.

And Goodberry, after Sylvanas jumped into the Maw, immediately jumped after her and did the soul rescuing quest.
This is my biggest role-playing moment ever.

I liked it as well, but I do think it leaves an opening that her character could be revisited sometime in the future. It’s definitely going to take her a long time to find all of those souls, though.

I liked the technical aspect.
The cinematic itself was also nicely done for its atmosphere and story.

Not surprising, notice how they do something similar with Illidan, Sargeras, and probably more. But I’d be ok not seeing Sylvanas for a long time :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Sylvanas’s Fate is the same fate we had for all of Shadowlands.

How is this ending a spoiler ?

It’s part of this weeks story campaign .

The cinematic was fine,

I just wished it never came to this point in the first place. Sylvanas is gone now, locked away in the Illidan box indefinitely.

I think they’re both cool characters that could be brought back later, you just don’t have to have an entire expansion revolve around them.

I feel more sad than anything, at this stage.

I didn’t like the thrall’s face… omg…

When she looked back at her sisters, Vereesa seemed sad while Alleria frowned. I haven’t liked this way it ends but the cinematic, once again, redeems it as much as is possible. Only thing I would have done different is have Tyrande join her since, to my mind, she bears responsibility for allowing the Horde to continually encroach in Ashenvale and kill or drive out nelfs for years without any meaningful response which finally ended on the beach at Darkshore.

You can say goodbye to that bird Dorithur.

It’s going to be the writers breakfast.

I’ll be honest, I was a bit worried, but this ending is pretty much exactly what I wanted. A fitting end (?) to Sylvanas, and it feels very appropriate.

And I’m VERY glad that Tyrande didn’t get left out, either.

Shadowlands has definitely had problems, but this particular questline isn’t one of them. 10/10 from me.

It seems we will are three in the Maw toiling to rescue souls.
Two have much to atone for, Sylvanas and me.
The third has very little to atone for, but believes to have much.

Tyrande stated that gathering Souls is the start of Sylvanas’s penance not the end.

Sylvanas’s punishment will continue after the Souls are gathered with Anduin’s help(according to the Sylvanas Novel).

He provides hope that the penance will eventually end by helping with the first stage of penance.

Tyrande will have a lot of time to come up with the next stage of penance for Sylvanas. Some time in a couple of the Shadowlands’ countless Realms of Torment perhaps? All the while we Players are making sure each one is stable and not run by Villains.

Blizzard did say that this Expansion might not be the last visit to the Shadowlands after all. This is merely a tour of the most vital functions of the Shadowlands. More Shadowlands aligned Expansions are possible according to Blizzard’s mind even if they do not involve vital components.

Yeah I agree op. They did a really good job with showing off a multitude of perspectives. I was a REALLY big fan of how they showed off Vereesa in this questline and it definitely endeared me to her a lot more.

I think this was a fair ending to the story per the disaster that was BFA and I am very excited for my favorite video game to move on from this unfun play experience forever.

That’s kind of exactly what makes it a spoiler.

One thing that frustrates me with the WoW community is their tendency to plaster every single story beat on every forum and Twitter post within 20 minutes of it hitting the servers. Not everyone will have time to play the epilogue today. I think it’s good courtesy to mark spoilers for a few days at least.

Maiev there. Silent and acquiescent. the bar I thought could not get lower…found a way to do so.

Yet another victim of the drive by character assassations to make this story work.

I was already in a down mood as I load up to go to a 4 day scout campthing. Its ofc…raining. tents in the rain is “fun”. this…makes it not so bad really.
