Sylvanas and Edge of Night plothole retcon?

On a more serious note, no one should be shocked for a moment if Blizz tries to pull some sort of redemptive stunt with Arthas. The MOMENT Anduin listed him amongst Alliance regrets, in the same expac that completely validated Daelin Proudmoore, is the moment they were prepped to whitewash that Lich King bugger. Gotta scrape even the slightly related tarnish off that impecably white shine.

My feelings on the Calia/Uther/Jaina thing is that it mostly reflects their personal feelings; if anything I think Jaina realizing that she couldn’t save him from his own decisions is both good growth and a rejection of more annoying headcanons from Arthas fans who somehow thought she was to blame.

I mean, depends on a personal preference, if it’s good when a story has something to wonder about, or to have a story which has no room for nuance.

The key for me is not if Jaina is confirmed to be guilty or not, but the fact that it might not be as clear, and there could be a bit of both. And this IMO was way better story than most things I saw in WoW.

In fairness, Lady Deathwhisper was Kel’thuzad’s replacement as leader of the Cult of the Damned, and the Cult’s never been entirely aware of the Lich King’s true intentions. They’re basically informed by a bunch of idealized Scourge propaganda about their master’s grand plan to turn Azeroth into a paradise of eternal life through undeath where nobody has to suffer and die any more.

As the Cult’s leader, much of Deathwhisper’s dialogue amounts to the sorts of grandiose talking points used by the Cult of the Damned to rope in desperate people as new recruits and sanitize their impressions of the horrors and misery they witness, so “the Master’s plans” probably fit into that same sort of “this is really all just a necessary trial along the way to the better future he’s making for us all” stuff.

Apparently retcons are now problematic to some people.

An aesthetic nit pick, but idk why they gave arthas blue eyes in that cinematic where Jaina is reflecting upon Arthas and her father. Cause I’m every other instance especially the box art for wc3 he’s supposed to have green eyes.

Yeah, I have no idea either? It feels like a weird oversight. Probably some Dev or another conflating the Blue eyes he has as the LK with his natural eye color.

Whatever it is, it is a minor thing but I feel it needed to be addressed lol.

Except we know this isn’t true as Alexandros’ soul was stolen by Arthas and placed inside Frostmourne during the 2nd battle of Lights Hope. Yet he ended up in Maldraxxus after Frostmourne was shattered.

unlesss
he is shattered too. dun dun dunnnn.

So being serious now, Darion’s soul was explained back in WotLK:

In the Unsealed Chest taken from the Lich King after he is defeated by a raid in which someone is wielding Shadowmourne, an item known as Alexandros’ Soul Shard is found. When returned to Darion, Alexandros’s spirit appears for the final time, thanking Darion for saving him from damnation.

The piece of his soul what would of gotten him tossed into the maw was stolen from the LK by Shadowmourne, our fake Azerothian mourneblade. So, restored he was saved from that fate.

He wasn’t killed by Frostmourne though. Unlike the others. So simply having your soul stolen is not the cause, but being physically killed by Frostmourne.

Soul Stealing was Ner’zhul’s modification. Ner’zhul knew Necromancy which is how he managed to add such an addition to the Primus’s Finest Mourneblade.

The Primus designed his weapon to cut his enemies’ Souls and send samples to the Maw(what was Torghast’s purpose for the Soul Samples?). Ner’zhul’s Soul Stealing is not the Mourneblade’s intended purpose nor was the Scourge the Helm of Domination’s intended purpose.

I’m sure the Helm of Domination was intended to keep the wielder of Frostmourne, the Jailer and the Mawsworn in line before the Jailer went and reverse-engineered it’s function back on itself(the connection turned out to be two-way it seems) which was eventually followed by him capturing the Primus and stealing the Blueprints for use on Anduin.

I dunno. It feels a little too coincidental that the Scourge reflects the Armies of the Dead in Maldraxxus so heavily. There has to have been some function that was considered that allowed for that sort of parallel in the initial designs of either Frostmourne, the Helm of Domination, or Both.

Well the Scourge was created through the plague of Undeath, which seems like it was knowledge wholesale torn out of the head of the Primus.

What I find interesting is it seems like Necromancy is inherently flawed in the Mortal Plane. It isn’t meant for bodies made out of the Elements. It is meant for flesh made of anima, which is why normal mortal undead rot away like they do.

The fleshy Undead which are unchanging are created by what seems like a sort of Domination Magic, like the DKs.

It is just blizzard trying to retcon stuff for no reason. I mean most of the scourge’s look was “borrowed” from the Nerubians when the scourge won the War of the Spider. Now that is up in the air because blizzard couldn’t be creative when it came to Maldraxxxus.

See, I’m not so sure. I just get the feeling the the Necromancy we see in the material plane is just a half-baked copy of what we’re seeing in Maldraxxus. Its a pale imitation, with the focus being on Domination magic to create an enslaved Horde
not so much the type of invidual ambition driven army like the Necrolords rely on. Quality of the product was never important beyond those they dumped tons of power into, like the DKs or San’layne. Quantity was clearly the priority. Still, SOMETHING should come out of that zone to at least improve the Forsaken’s quality of life. You would think the Necrolords or the Primus himself would have that knowledge.

On one hand it could be like the thing with Warbringers Azshara and the Sylvanas scourge invasion cutscenes having elves with human eyes in some shots, to the point it looks somewhat off model. Not the first Bliz is weird about some character design elements shifting based on stylistics.

On the other hand it could be meaningful in some way but I feel it’s not as likely as a minor mistake for now.

Did it though? Just about the only thing they apparently stole from the Nerubians was the Zigguratts and Crystal Power cells. The base Scourge body types, generic enemies, lichs, abominations, mad-chemistry
NONE of that comes from the bugs. And honestly, Maldraxxus is easily one of the more creative covenants once you look past the base aesthetics. The internal structure and operations of each of the houses. The ways constructs are designed for specific purposes and specifications. The sort of ambition driven magic of the House of Rituals, which is super reflective of classic lichdom (but turned into a community system). Its kind of awesome. Hell, each House having VERY specific duties and functions to the whole. Its like the Scourge done right.

The place is oozing with oozes, but it also actually has more personality than say
Bastion. Which, the Covenant story was probably the most cohesive, but god that place and its characters bleed together too much.

They actually established the Nerubians looked into the shadowlands and themselves copied things, which is why the new guys happens to look like the old ones.

I get the feel it is defective yes, but I do think part of it is because it was never meant to be used on mortal flesh. Anima flesh is fundamentally not the same stuff. Mortal flesh is subject to the elemental force of decay, once life leaves the body and along with it the elemental force of Spirit. Decay wants to
 well
decay the body back into its base elemental components.

On top of the that the line between anima flesh and soul is a LOT thinner than the line between mortal flesh and soul. The link to mortal flesh is a lot weaker as you are fighting the cycle of life and death, which seems to be why most mortal undead are sort of
mindless. Anima bodies and souls are naturally compatible.

The Dreadlords were personally overseeing the Scourge so if they see Ner’zhul creating Undead including Undead Spiders resembling the Aranakk why not teach him how to create Slimes, Abominations and Liches to improve his Undead Empire?

It’s supposed to be for the Jailer so if Ner’zhul would rather mock the Primus(which is what they think he is doing rather than using the Dark Star’s knowledge) over bringing over the Jailer’s Mawsworn to crush Azeroth in the Jailer’s name then so be it!

This too.
