fair enough, but i do think its kind of pointless to frame n’zoth, after all we see his handiwork (and himself later) at the tidesage temple
My long shot theory (because none of this makes much sense): I think Helya needs a sort of Avatar to return, and Lady Ashvane is the perfect host.
Maybe lineage wise she has recognizable amounts of Vrykul blood.
Or Sylvanas needs a big living human gal of noble birth.
There is alot of sacrificing and death going on.
Sylvanas likes her women warm, squishy, and evil (but not as evil as herself).
She still can get arrows in her quiver in the form of K’thir from that Kraken as long as it’s master is allied to her… She didn’t turn down the suggestion to recruit AU Mag’har into the Horde so she may see value in getting her own K’thir linked to Ashvane’s Kraken to counter the K’thir linked to N’Zoth.
I’ll list down the details about Ashvane’s freedom could mean against the Alliance.
-
Ashvane was Katherine Proudmoore’s closest friend and ally all these years prior. She knows the ins, and outs of Kul Tiras and its military. She essentially controlled Kul Tiras by speaking through Katherine; as seen with Jaina’s Judgement.
-
She may not have combative experience; but she and her house was responsible for some of the strongest weaponry in Kul Tiras’ arsenal. She knows the faults and weaknesses which Kul Tiras likely will be using since her imprisonment.
-
Its not just hidden passageways. But also military information, relations, events on Kul tiras the Horde likely had missed, and even more so… The knowledge of the seas and how she controlled a kraken.
-
Likely so, Ashvane has no love for the Horde, nor Kul Tiras. she had every intent to control the area and if Katherine never discovered it; she’d rule Kul Tiras and give it up to Azshara for her own schemes. Her freedom puts her at the door for betrayal and her becoming a proper boss as the alliance never really deal with her in their specific dungeon.
Pricilla Ashvane has much knowledge to obtain about Kul Tiras, its weapons, its prowess, and even more so the knowledge she collected on Azerite which funny enough, went under the Admiralty’s nose for years. Her house is still loyal and hostile to the rest of Kul Tiras so the Horde can use that to their advantage.
She’s a big key, a big sharp key that cuts two ways.
The issue again with her being a traitor is her noble standings mean nothing, to which I mean as soon as Katherine hears that Ashvane was busted out of prison. If there is some secret inner workings, she would most likely change it, you don’t keep the status quo when there is a leak of information. That is just national security 101.
As for that Trade Empire if I am to believe it wouldn’t be broken down immediately by the Kul Tiran Admiralty, then it would be closely monitored and investigated (Think Kor’kron Marshall Law of Undercity under Garrosh’s rule). At least that is what a competent ruler would do.
In that comic I got the idea that the Void hated her, not the other way around. She doesn’t make a comment on the void except that her sister gave herself up willingly to it, but that was more to point out her hypocrisy; Alleria chose her monsters whereas Sylvanas didn’t.
As I’ve said before, the issue doesn’t lie within Derek. Even if he is brainwashed or manipulated. It serves no purpose as logically, Katherine and the rest of Kul Tiras wouldn’t accept him. See my comments above for breakdown.
Long shot or no this is the sarcastic quip I was making in my original post, unless there is some lineage related thing about Ashvane she doesn’t serve any practical purpose. It’s tinfoil hat to the max but I don’t see any other outcomes. Though I find it to be a weak reasoning if that is what Blizzard chooses.
K’thir are unreliable at best, as Horde we even kill them in Stormsong. Also I believe it was Lord Stormsong and Azshara herself who compel them, not Lady Ashvane. I believe the two are unconnected. And even if they were. It is much safer to just kill and resurrect Tide Priests than trust K’thir, and then you get the same effect with less risk.
My post is already long (as I’m addressing multiple at once, since I can’t multipost due to new forums) so I’ll break it down rather short.
- As I’ve already stated, Captain Amelia Stone should know just as much as Ashvane, and anything that was super secret between just Katherine and Ashvane. National Security 101 dictates you change that thing as soon as you hear your traitor escapes, before then actually.
- That weaponry is Azerite creations, something that she already has Goblins working on 24/7 she doesn’t need Ashvane to study something she would already be ahead on (she is ahead because Azerite cannons < Horde War Machine).
- See the Answer to number 1. And the Fogsail Freebooters + Tide Priest should know Kul Tiran sea ways better than her. Additionally, the Horde has controlled Krakens in the past they don’t need that information either (I believe this was Tides of War novel).
- This isn’t a boon to the Horde.
a noble with connections to some very unsavory people, a contact with azshara and a grudge to settle with the proudmores is actually the best ally she could hope to bring to her side. The war isn’t going our way right now the alliance has evened the playing field and she realizes she needs breathing room after the Kul’tiran assault so what better way then to tie up alliance resources dealing with ashvane as she rallies yet another pirate fleet to sow chaos on the alliance’s already diminished armies.
Stormsong K’thir were indeed created by N’Zoth yet the Anglepoint K’thir in Tiragarde Sound specifically refer to Ashvane’s Kraken Viq’Goth as their master!
This doesn’t work. You can’t rally another pirate fleet just because you ask them to. You need to provide them incentive, and as a traitor Ashvane’s assets would all be seized, the trading company itself deeply investigated and monitored.
She couldn’t offer any future pirates anything. Not to mention her reputation with pirates would be atrocious since she got the last merry band all captured and/or killed.
Not to mention the Fogsail Freebooters as actual pirates, would have a better chance of recruiting more pirates and also having connections with unsavory people.
An untrustworthy and powerless ally is not one you risk resources for. A bad ally is not better than no ally at all.
I couldn’t find this anywhere. Can you provide the mob name of K’thir that do this? Though assuming this is true, it still doesn’t change the fact that they are unreliable at best. And a Tide Sage that is killed and brought back is still a safer choice that can get the job done just as well.

Aggro:
Director Deepwarden says: You are too late! You cannot stop the tide that rises before you!
Death:
Director Deepwarden says: Uq naggwa… our master… comes for you…
Director Deepwarden himself claims their master comes for us and surprise surprise Ashvane’s Pet Kraken Viq’Goth shows up to attack us in the next quest.
Think you’re taking that a little too literal. If Ashvane is allied with Azshara, it is more likely the kraken was given to her as a show of support/ force multiplier. A fleet of pirates is nice, but having a giant squid means your chances of success double or triple.
No, the kraken was likely under Azshara, with Ashvane acting as an in between. Much the same way Mythraxx and Zul operated; both served G’huun, but one ranked higher or had a better brain to direct the other.
I think you’re falling victim to the problem that correlation does not prove causation. He doesn’t specifically say that Viq’goth is coming, or that Viq’goth is his master, only that his master is coming. Which you attribute the very next thing we face as being his master because he says this, where his master he is actually referring to could be N’zoth, or Azshara or whomever we don’t really know.
Besides “Uq naggwa” means Power Unending in the faceless language if we are to go off a direct translation. Which I think hardly could be attributed to Viq’goth who is relatively easy to defeat.
I believe the Kraken works more like this as well. But again, with Viq’goth defeated, and previous Kraken subjugating experience within the Horde. Ashvane isn’t necessary.
Tell that to the Russians when the Germans sent Lenin by train to Russia to destabilize the country. One person can be hugely dangerous.
This is not a fair comparison because the Russians didn’t know what kind of damage Lenin would cause. Whereas Kul Tirans know that Ashvane is a dangerous traitor.
An unknown threat can be dangerous, a known threat can only be dangerous if it has power or if you ignore it.
Unfortunately, the far better analogue to Lenin is the Alliance’s use of Saurfang.
Ashvane is just another boring, low stakes plot from a writing team that doesn’t know how to give the Horde anything cool anymore.
This^. Saurfang by a majority of the Horde playerbase at least, isn’t seen as a dangerous traitor. He would be the correct comparison to Lenin should he return to the Horde and destabilize it.
