Yeah it’s basically a pack of lies. Like she wrote it in universe as a journal of her view of the events.
You’re not missing anything. Well, unless you want to be more frustrated with this storyline.
Its interesting … their path remains so unclear to me ATM its crazy.
I had assumed they had run away with Sylvanas as of 8.2.5 … but that wasn’t the case it seems. It not only makes me question their own fate, but the fate of MANY of the Banshee Rangers under Sylvanas (its part of why I was so disappointed that the Velanora sidequest was apparently cut). I would assume that like Nathanos, those TOP Dark Rangers of her inner circle would follow her into hell gladly … but is there really no dissent within their ranks (they were not an insubstantial force within the Forsaken, there were MANY of them around)?
The idea that EVERY Dark Ranger is just OK with Sylvanas essentially becoming the Lich Queen (and treating them as tools, like they were in the Scourge) is mind boggling to me. Especially when canonically the ONLY person she’s revealed her experience in hell to, is Nathanos. I seem to recall a tiny bit of dialogue suggesting that many of them only overlooked her turning them into Banshee’s in the first place being because she was compelled to by the Lich King … yet they are apparently a monolith that is OK with what she has become? Its weird…
Not all of Sylvanas’ dark rangers went with her. There are many injured Dark Rangers left behind on the gates of Orgrimmar.
Injured? Why? Anyone specific?
Why would there be injured at the gates of Orgrimmar? Nobody but Saurfang and Sylvanas fought there.
Nathanos was incidentally up there with them before he had to get the hell out of there because of Sylvanas’ outburst…
Maybe they tried to take him prisoner. Or something.
Beats me. They’re there though. Check.
I feel like there are a few things, not many, but a few, so unimaginably stupid that no matter one’s faction or hot take on Sylvanas, about 99% of the board can come together in shared disbelief at the mind-boggling idiocy of a just really, really, really bad decision for the lore.
free-willed undead Horde night elves
hisses Stay your tongue of those foul, cursed words.
It is a BIT bizarre to call them free-willed.
I mean, yes, Sylvanas is apparently not directly controlling them. But becoming undead DID drastically alter their personalities.
So while they might still be able to make decisions for themselves, they’re clearly not making the same decisions they would have made before they died.
On a weird tangent … I would be totally cool with them aesthetically if they were based off the Nightfallen Rigs. Seriously, it always sort of bothered me that Elves retained their beauty when they become rotting corpses; while every other race seems to just become a festering husk.
Why can’t the dead stay death? it would give them the true “relieve of peace”
Necromancy and prolonged undead life sorts can lead to discord all the same and it will take time for general Azeroth’s cultures to normalize undead to “living being” when it isn’t.
I reckon it is for the best interest for the forsaken to fade and have their spirits remain in peace, after all, undead is but a fatal blasphemy for both aspects of the living & death.
I still think Elegy was a very well written and worthwhile read (except the catapults part), though obviously written with the intention to wrench the heartstrings of anyone susceptible to that sort if writing.
And Vespero covers well why Delaryn while she was alive should not really be seen as the same character as the Undead Delaryn as she is now:
Not to mention that Tyrande’s faith at the moment is shaky at best. Her latest bit of dialogue with Shandris describes how she wants to find out why Elune “abandoned her children”. Like I said before, after going so drastic a step as to assume the Twilight Mantle, the gentle healer we once knew is very likely gone, possibly for good.
Because they’ve been bent on reducing the player capital cities for some time now. After finally having an excuse to remove two of them from any game advancement, they’re not going to walk that back.
Where is sylvanas’ army now though? Would have made sense if she had not abandoned the UD NEs and had them as a bulk for her forces… without free will.
now this opens up the door to so many bad things… like the Horde Having UD NEs as a PC race… that cannot happen, might as well have everything the alliance and night elves have blizz…
With what purpose though? These capitals aren’t gone, they’re still accessible via the bronze dragonflight so if anything, the game files have just gotten larger due to this.
They should make all capitals have the same features and not just have Stormwind and Orgrimmar be the main hubs.
The name for Ironforge in the old days was “Lagforge”. As the only Alliance city with an auction house at the time, it was the player hub for the Alliance. So everyone used to hang there.
On the Horde side, it was Orgrimmar for the same reason. “Lagrimmar” never quite caught on though.
