I feel like the covenant campaigns were a step down from order halls, and order halls didn’t compare to SWTOR’s class campaigns- especially not when considering the light/dark side paths. THEN, add on top of that, there were republic and empire sides- so 4 class stories per class.
Nothing seems like it will ever beat that outside a single player game. :’(
the leveling and story line choices in swtor are top notch honestly, really fun… game didn’t seem as monotonous it was nice feeling like your choices actually had an impact on the world. man if the COMBAT was smooth and fluid like wows I would probably main that game but while abilities an animations are awesome, it felt kinda clunky and made pvp feel a bit weird which ultimately drove me away from it
Didn’t EA force Bioware to use that engine for a bunch of their games?
I remember some animation staff being like, “the engine wasn’t built to have a cover mechanic so we had to build that ourselves so we ended up fighting with the engine a lot.”
I don’t think so, this was before the days of Frostbite.
The SWTOR engine was clearly designed to clone the WoW of its time, and it felt pretty much identical.
The SWTOR and WoW engines have evolved in different ways and diverged since then; SWTOR retained more of the GCD/animation-based gameplay, where you don’t have to constantly button-mash, while WoW evolved towards a more fast-paced movement and attack simulator.
Obviously WoW still isn’t an action game and SWTOR isn’t a tactics game, they’re still basically the same engine and design, but there are minor differences now instead of it feeling exactly identical like it used to.
I’m honestly not too sure about other games but I remember hearing about that too about cover, it’s such a shame, honestly the combat is what brings me back to wow every time I try a new game out, that’s one thing about wow that has always been the S tier in comparison to other games which sucks cuz I’m telling you… if they applied this system to swtor it’d be swapping
Luckily no. The only EA/BIOware game that uses Hero Engine is SWtOR, well that is “proudly” advertised publically. EA forced Bio to go full HEngine cause it was cheaper. They had a plan to use HE for quest and cinematics while using Havoc for more immersive combat - but not sure where in development, Havoc wouldn’t lower price nor hand over their info and told EA to get bent.
EA pretty much then had Bio just make HE appear like a WoW engine clone.
I logged onto SWTOR for the first time in a while and remember why I quit. Yikes that UI. I could have hundreds of Addons and still not make something that messy.
SW:TOR class stories and campaigns are best in class, as far as I’m concerned. All of it is remarkably well-done. It’s SW:TOR’s endgame and certain aspects of class mechanics that weren’t up to WoW standards, in my opinion. I tried to replace WoW with SW:TOR - it just didn’t interest me at endgame.
As well over nerfing and buffing of classes/specs cause people “conveniently forgot” they had three base stuns, two interrupts and multiple defensive CDs before you even left your starting planet.
Eh… less you went Sorc. Yeah, me and the 600 other lightning tossing saps out there are all the sole heirs to a long lost forgotten Sith Lord. Although… Zash and Khem paired together was amazingly well written.
I still remember the disaster that was Ilum world PvP. As soon as people got there it became obvious why they kept Republic and Sith separated for almost the whole game.
