Sword Model designs

I was scrolling through all of the epic rated two handed swords today to get some mog ideas for my ret and it’s ridiculously hard to make anything look good imo as the only swords that look like swords are most of them from vanilla and some from tbc.

I would really love for some hi res katana’s, thin bladed great swords and swords that match the heritage armors to be implemented.

I am not a fan of the buster sworded paddles that we always get now.

Having some high-res versions of some of the basic designs they did back in vanilla would be great. Some people just want to have a simplistic, yet good-looking weapon—not some mega universe shattering legendary blade of yore that is twice the size of your arms.

eh. Bigger weapons give them the opportunity to actually make them look distinct. Most of the “normal” 2h swords from vanilla all basically look the same at a glance, just with slight hilt variations.

But the Revendreth and Oribos-themed swords from this expansion aren’t just massive slabs. Same goes for the Kul’tiran leveling swords from BfA.

I disagree with you in that… those leveling one handed swords are thicker than the vanilla great swords.

I also think those swords that all look the same in vanilla look better than anything produced recently because they look like swords.

Most katanas and long swords only weigh two pounds and most great swords are only between 6 to 8 pounds irl.

I get it’s wow, a game and in a fantasy setting, but I would prefer some practical options that fit todays fidelity

If you want sword inspirations, you might check out Stone’s Glossary of Arms and Armor. It’s what gave me the ideas for my SCA armor and weapons.

Somewhat agreed with this, as I would love to see more rational swords like a Bastard sword, claymore, etc…something that looks like my char. could actually swing it over and over without tiring out. A good claymore with a strong, damascus blade that can take a beating and still cut.

Like Doug Marcaida says: “It will kill”.

I like my current 2 hand. But I would like to dye it black

Did you look at any of the swords from this xpac?

I avoid many of the newer swords because they look a little ridiculous (there are a few exceptions). I was looking at the 2h sword in DF and it’s basically a spine. Like what? How is that practical, much less even considered a sword?

The quest and dungeon sword models are probably more your style. Check those out

BC and Wrath had some of the favorites in terms of 2 handers. Also nice to mog the Silver Hand appearances to have the libram transmog

Personally I like Starshatter myself… it’s huge but at leas it distinctly still looks like a sword…

You mean “It will KEAL”

“KEAL” is an acronym for “Keep Everyone Alive.” In other words, the sentence emphasizes the importance of celebrating the art of forgery without causing harm.

Yea and most of the models for the two handers are abysmal to me. The mawsworn model is the closest thing to a practical blade this expac imo and that would still break your arm if you swing it or just get tangled up in the first thing you hit it against with all those notches, but at least it has an actual point.

The rapier one-handers look like fireplace pokers with the square blades

At the end of the day, I’m looking for actual practical options that have current fidelity… I’m not declaring that I think any of the other models need to be changed.

Hmm. I feel like you’re not seeing all the quest/dungeon swords and the nathria swords which all pretty much look like typical blades.

Are you just looking for one handers specifically or two handers as well?

Have you ever seen what a rapier actually looks like in real life? The blades look like that lol.

For modern fencing, yes that is what they look like, and are used for poking for points and are sporting devices not weapons. Real rapiers were a very long, very thin (often fullered to lighten further) blade, capable of slashing and thrusting effectively and were not ‘square’ in shape.

That said, I’d say the only good 1h from this expac (imo anyway) is the ‘Worn Short Blade’ grays you can find in bastion, real nice, clean, and simple, no fussy glyphs or runes or fancification, just a clearly effective weapon that’s seen much use. The NF 1h Sword was a close second, yes it’s got a fantasy flare to it, but it’s simple in shape and not exploding with random stuff like many weapons seem to like.

And don’t get me started on the NF polearm which looks like a blue crab claw on a stick instead of the really nice spears you see the NF guards with.

I mean they’re both real lol. I get what you’re saying though.

Yeah I see what you’re saying but I guess simple short swords already exist in game? There’s plenty of them in old xpacs, I think I’d be pretty pissed if we kept getting the same looking sword over and over again. They are introducing a lot of simple models as quest/dungeon rewards in DF though so there’s that at least.

I personally love the 1h swords from tazavesh and maldraxxus. There’s a lot of good ones from the dungeons as well.

Grand Marshal Claymore is still the best sword in the game, 17 years running.

The Tazavesh 1 handler is nice along with the variants they drop from the jellyfish boss in ZM.

Too many swords for the past couple of expansions look like the toothy jawbone of some large creature with a hilt stuck to it.

Fair enough. However, I look at a sword for what it’s meant for lol
