Is it possible now with all the shared class abilities to have a proper sword and board dps build as a warrior? Or still a pipedream?

Aren’t certain abilities still tied to needing a certain weapon equipped? For example, Shield of the Righteous for Retribution Paladin requires me to have a shield equipped. I just have a macro that auto swaps me but still.
Last time Blizzard did that it turned out to be impossible to balance.
I’m sure someone will try it out and see (if they haven’t already) but I doubt it’s an explicitly intended form of play, as in the Gladiator Stance era.
That said, these kinds of off-the-wall, unintended spec variations are one of the things that made D2 great. Still, not really seeing the potential in WoW, universal Shield abilities or no.

Core abilities require a 2h weapon for arms and either 2 2 handers for fury or 2 1 handers for fury.
So just like anything they do?

I’ve wanted a sword and board dps spec for the longest time.
It’s a shame I’ll probably never see it in WoW.

Right? Why make shield abilities available across the class and no be able to use it efficiently as DPS? I’m kind of sad about that too.
I’d love to be able to use a sword and shield on my DPS warrior. Especially since so many other classes treat their weapon and off hand item as stat sticks. Of course making it so is a whole other thing. lol

Its not a pipe dream because it was actually an option in the game for awhile.
But they couldn’t get it balanced so they killed it.
I believe it was called Gladiator Stance back when warriors could pick what stance to be in.

You technically can do it. But you’d be really gimping yourself with losing core abilities. If you want to RP or do it while leveling / questing yourself I don’t see why you couldn’t. It just won’t be a smart option if you’re trying to maximize your DPS or even trying to get it to anything close to the other options available as a warrior.
