Why are we still waiting on sword and shield dps specs for paladin and warrior? They should have been in the game a long time ago and no I am not talking about Glad Stance from WoD. These need to be fully fleshed out specs that use only a one hander and a shield to be a damage dealer. Make it a thing blizzard, A LOT of people are still waiting for it.
They tried in WoD.
Gladiator stance was a talent that gave prot warriors a dps spec. Reduced threat, increased damage, a mini charge on shield slam. It was a cool idea but ultimately hard to balance and people didn’t like being out dps’d by a tank. It got nerfed into the ground and became a borderline useless talent until it was rightfully removed in legion.
It’s in the game right now.
Pop a shield and use Shield Slam in place of Raging Blow/Mortal Strike. Also use Shield Block in any spec.
Damage is still quite reasonable.
Will never compete on DPS meters, which is very much fine as shield is a defensive instrument.
You clearly didn’t read what I posted.
No I know what you wrote. I’m saying that Glad stance was their “attempt”. I also love the aesthetic of sword and shield. But blizz has a thing about “silhouette ”. Being able to identify the role of a character by what they’re holding or wearing. I don’t think sword and board is likely.
Right…that’s why they allow fish as a weapon transmog and staves to be used in place of a two handed axe…lol
It’s not about the specific look of the item. It’s more like. Out in the battlefield you see
2 handed weapon, light attacks. = ret Paladin
Two weapons, wings, = demon hunter.
So on and so forth.
I’m not saying it a good reason. But that is the reason they gave. And considering blizz history, they’re not likely to budge.
Yeah their reasoning is normally pretty bad.
Preaching to the choir my friend
The greatest most fun Dps spec in the history of this game. That is what Glad stance was. I pre-ordered WoD solely on Glad stance coming to the game. It was the only time I did raid progression because finally I had sword and board Dps to play.
Now it’s back to speccing Prot as a Dps and trying to get the biggest dmg possible.
As someone that loved Glad stance and used to main Prot war. I switched to Prot Pal because in 8.3 it had that WotLK Prot feel. It felt like a real mitigation Tank while doing huge Dps like it’s supposed too.
In SL there are some really good Dps options for Prot Pal even more so than BFA so if you love Sword and Board type style then Prot Pal will give you that fix. Unfortunately you will hold aggro if using it in PvE since you are Prot. Wish there was a glph or something to drop all Agro and I could just play Prot Pal as Dps.
However Prot Pal is super fun and if you are looking for big numbers with a Shied it’s the only option.
You really felt the need to quote 3 words from me? lol
It was largely garbage, offered little, and died early for the better.
Wee, see how fun it can be to throw around subjective feelings as though they were wrote as absolute. Exhilarating!
You know, I actually don’t believe you.
Is this a joke.
Sometimes all you need is 3 or 4 words then the rest just works itself out. Your first 3 words of the sentence was off to such a great start decided to finish it for you.
You know most of the glad stance zealots are dishonest and claim glad stance isn’t a dps with unbalanced durability. This guy flat out says it is and that’s why he loves it. I kinda respect that I guess? Its hilarious he can’t take the next logical step and recognize why thats bad for the game.
I don’t know how well it did in damage or utility. I do know that it was fun to play though.
The most important part of the game. Fun design. It’s an RPG game every spec should feel fun and OP…
Hahah alright buddy. Fair enough xD
Not me. I wanted it back as a fully-fleshed out DPS spec. I even did a whole spec design on it and posted it on the old forums, which is now sadly gone.
Only defensive advantage it had over Arms/Fury was the extra armor it got from having a shield equipped. I even came up with a talent that let you change your defensive CD to protect four other party members instead of yourself.
Never really understood the appeal to play a spec that you had to get BiS gear just to do middle of the pack damage at best, also while having one of the highest, if not the highest APM in the game.
The only good thing I could say about glad stance is that it was unique to warrior and there was nothing else in the game like it. But otherwise it was awful. More power to you if you enjoyed it, but I think it’s best it doesn’t make a comeback.
It’s called class fantasy and we play an MMORPG. Every other game I play is to go for Sword and Board DPS play style. That is exciting and the appeal.
Not having it in this game just means there are tons of players that have to find that spec in other games to enjoy. It means they can’t enjoy this game because there isn’t a DPS spec that fills the play style you enjoy. Which is bad design.
It should make a come back but in an even better iteration. There is nothing better than doing Dps with a Shield. That is what is enjoyable. You know the meters aren’t everything especially if the spec is boring. Glad stance was so exciting and loved the rotation and big Shield Slams. It was loved and will be missed by many.
I guess I will be fine if they bring back WotLK Prot to fill that Sword and Board Dps fantasy. At least in SL Prot Pally will be very close. The sad thing is I can’t raid as Prot Pally and be a Dps role… oh well…
