Switching From Tank to Dps

Hey all i have been a tank since Wrath and i have been all of them but DH but since having a child i want to step away from tanking and become a dps main im just wondering what dps specs are good and how do i stay away from wanting to tank since it just takes up to much of my time atm to do Mythic + and Raiding as a Tank while trying to look after a child in the mix of it all

Get onto that Demonology warlock fam. Fun playstyle.

To avoid wanting to tank - that’ll be a self journey. You’ve done it a long time.

haha yeah i have i was leaning towards rogue i love their game style but every now and then i go but tank hahaha

The meta changes so much, unless you’re going hard on top end content I’d say play what ever dps you find the most fun and appealing because eventually it will swing to become the top meta if it isn’t already.

If you’re like me, you’ll never be able to give up tanking.

I tried playing a pure dos class a few times thinking that would force me to not tank but it just ended up making me hate the character.

However, I jave gotten to where I can successfully do DPS off-spec for an hour or two here snd there.

If you got the tank bug youll never give it up.

Also, what does having a kid jave to do with tanking? Wouldnt you still be playing the same amount of time regardless of the class/spec you choose?

It sounds like op had a baby recently? As a parent of many, I get it. Not wanting the responsibility in keys as tank and wanting to log on and mindlessly dps.

I played a lot less the first couple years with each of my kids. They take up a lot of your time and energy the first couple years - not that they don’t after those first two but hopefully you know what I mean. xD

I think locks rock op. I would definitely try one out.

If you find dps isn’t your jam you could still tank just probably a lot less the next season or so.

agreed! his IRL responsibility meter is probably off the charts right now lol. last thing I’d want is to be in charge of a pack of adult children as well in my free time.

Get used to multitasking.

The queues will be long.

lmao.

Try not to pick a DPS based on the meta, because that changes from patch to patch.

Just try a bunch and see which ones feel fun

Any orphanages in the area?

Go druid…its the ultimate class since you can do every role.

Honestly, you’ll be back to tanking in some way shape or form. Everytime I try something else, I get frustrated with the tanks I get and I go back.

But you can still take a step back and find more time. I run a small business, have 2 kids, play hockey (even though I’m old) and still find time to tank. Just not raiding anymore.

my advice is to play the broken specs like demo lock.

I feel you.

It’s hard not to feel obligated to get on your tank when people want to run stuff.
I just started playing Fury a lot and it’s pretty fun.

Havoc DH is fun too, there are like 3 different play styles you can use with Havoc. One focuses the Eye Beam which is pretty cool.

Rogues are fun, they take some practice though. Gotta get used to combo points/energy. Monk is in the same boat.

I’ve really been loving Fury though – despite it not being at the top of the charts. I could be doing more DPS if I went Kyrian, but Condemn just feels so fun to me.

There is some truth to this. Used to do arena with a baby in a sling while nursing.

but, there is definitely a lot less time the first 2-3 years. It’s all gud. Its a hard but beautiful time.

Lol yeah DPS just get to be mindless souls doing kind of just whatever. We don’t have to put any effort or work in, don’t contribute to anything and don’t have to plan and have a strategy in everything we do. Lol. Lol.

As someone who has played almost every class/spec extensively there is something about being a gud dps BUT It’s not like tanking… if we’re talking higher keys.

Prob worded it wrong. Oh well. I feel zero pressure as a dps.

take it ez

I think there are a lot of factors and there’s also like this terminal velocity to get to as each role as you do it. Like in M+ there are a lot of weeks if you’re not doing the right things as DPS you’re not timing the keys. Necrotic is a tank affix sure, they have to kite, but do the tanks enable the kiting? Bursting is a healer affix, but do the healers roll stacks 12 times?

There is a deeper finesse to DPS at least at higher keys. I think depending on the key levels OP does it would be a mistake to swap to DPS because the learning curve would throw off any time “saved” by not tanking.

I always word crap wrong.

fire crap off prematurely. I’m glad I’m not a dude

A gud DPS that knows their class and wut to do is refreshing as hell.

FOR ME, there is more pressure as a tank. At least pug life.

We all have our times we say things that upset people and didn’t mean to. Sorry to get defensive.

If it’s purely a stress thing I’d suggest them stopping at 15s and not tanking, yeah. Stopping at heroic raid too, maybe normal.
