On a whim I just bought the dragonflight expansion epic edition (for the free gametime) after a long hiatus and boy do I have instant regret after logging in, like I mean a serious depressing case of buyers remorse. No offense to anybody that likes the new UI but I absolutely despise it. Are there any new hard to find add-ons the revert it back to its classic appearance? This is so distracting it makes the game unplayable, I want a refund even though I know thats impossible.
If the wow community is still the same I know I’ll get a lot of no mercy for this, I should have done my research before buying an expansion, but never in my wildest dreams did I think they would completely overhaul the UI. There was already a million addons to do that why did they force it on ALL of the players???
Well any help or solidarity would be appreciated, I am sincerely bummed out now, thanks.

You know you can edit it, right? What exactly is so depressingly awful about it to you that can’t be fixed by adjusting it to however you like?

I have nothing to say but I love your name

A quick Google search shows an add-on called ClassicUI, though it doesn’t look as though it’s been updated for Dragonflight.
One of the comments there mentions a combination of Shadowlands Menu, SexyMap, Easy Frames, and Bartender4 as a way to get not quite 100% of the way there but pretty damn close.
As somebody else pointed out, you also can go into an edit mode for it in the game menu and move a lot of stuff around. There is a “classic” setting on that, but it’s not going to make it look like it used to. It’ll mostly just move your portrait/HP bar and the target’s portrait/HP bar back where they used to be on the top left.
You could play around with that to get it to something that you find more usable, though.

You will find plenty of people who agree with you.
But, all I can say is that the new UI is objectively better in every way to the old UI. I know people dont like familiar things changing. I get it. It can be frustrating or jarring.
All I can say is this. Give it a try. Play with the customizations. Move things around. Really give it a full go. You definitely will get used to it. And you may end up liking it.
I can say, I used to use the old UI, with a few addons. Nothing crazy. I adapted to this one, and I am actually vastly enjoying it more than the old one. It just took a hour or two once I got it set up how I wanted it, to really start to like it.

Thanks, I tried ClassicUI but thats not working currently, I also tried edit mode before I even posted which is what inspired me to reach out. I’ll look into it more but thanks for the help.
I think that someone will create a classic UI addon eventually. But until then, try Bartender or ElvUI if you want to.
As a person who has never used addons and only used to standard UI for the past 18 years I can say the new UI is 100x better than the old. Just take your time and set it up the way you like it.
I agree there should be an option to use the old UI, but apparently that’s not possible.
I’ve seen some folks post UI’s they did that look very close to the old one but I don’t know what addons they used. I spent some time and used the edit feature to get the UI close to how it used to be. You might experiment a while and just see what you can come up with.

In the words of some orc, times change. Blizzard obviously does not want to maintain two completely different UIs with different elements and everything. Eventually there will be an addon that will replicate the old UI for you to use.

You can refund it can’t you? Assuming you just got it
Is it? I wouldn’t have thought it was

Because Edit Mode is Error Mode if you try to manipulate certain things that it controls.

You know what, I just tried and I was actually able to get a refund, I just figured since it was an expansion I couldn’t. I don’t have gametime anymore but apparently I can still post on the forums. Thanks everybody else, I will keep tabs on the issue and if there’s an add-on in the future maybe I’ll come back. I’m too old school for my own good that I’m stuck on the 1/100th lesser version even after giving this new one a chance for about an hour. Thanks again!

Yup, new UI is worse imo
It’s just a hassle/nuisance to “suddenly” have your screen all messed up and having to manually redo your bars and such - especially across multiple alts
And it’s extra bad on smaller screens. For example, a standard 15.6" laptop screen feels super cluttered/crowded and untidy now after the new UI update… whereas before, with the buttery-smooth, trouble-free “stock” Blizzard UI, everything was already neatly pre-arranged and easily legible/“just the right font size” for reading, now there’s tiny text everywhere
We need a stock UI “toggle” button/option to change the screen back to exactly how it looked before, and we need it soon lol

Awesome, that’s good to hear

I believe what people want is the old textures as well.
Incorrect.
What they actually want is to yell at clouds and wear an onion on their belt (as was the fashion at the time).

I try to stay away from passing opinions on what people think looks good. I’m sure some people really hate the new UI just because of the textures. If Blizz had just added Edit Mode and not modernized the appearance of things I believe there would be less of these threads.
What I did was use the addons MoveAny, Shadowlands Micro Bar, SexyMap, and Masque + Masque Blizzard Bars Revived to get some semblance of the old ui.
