Swapping weapons

I can swap weapons in combat.

I can even use a macro to swap to a certain a weapon whenever I use a specific ability.

But I cannot use an addon to change weapons while I’m in combat.

How does this make sense?

API limitations.

It’s annoying, but that’s the way it was coded back then too.

Limitation of addons. In exchange for the ability for addons to do limited automation, they had to be limited in API functionality during combat to minimize unfair advantage.

You’ll find that some addons can change stuff in combat, when they are assigned specific hotkeys to do it. Depends on how they’re coded to carry out the task.

This kind of thing could be used to generate an extremely unfair advantage in PvP.

Macros are as close as you will get, and gives us a far more even playing field.

How can it give you an unfair advantage in combat?

I cannot give you specific examples because I do not engage in this sort of activity when I play video games, however doesn’t the answer to your question seem obvious?

Example A: A macro would not allow you to exceed your APM.

Example B: An addon would allow you to perform actions that human beings are not capable of.

That in itself seems pretty obviously imbalanced when example A is fighting in PvP against example B.

Yea, ok bud… opinion ignored.

There is much more of my post to read. Sometimes I question if this community wants their game to improve or if they just want to kick and scream for the things they want.

If you want things to change you need to at least present a credible argument for your opinion which you have failed to do.

Stupid question gets stupid answer.

Your squirrel brain self is clearly swapping weapons for a tactical gain, the gain can be seen as an advantage. Having to consciously make the decision is tactic, having an app do it for you is an unfair advantage.

Get gud, zug zug!

You just threw out an opinion that even you admit has no basis in reality. Sit down.

A macro does the same thing an addon does. Addons are usually just prettier interfaces. There’s nothing regarding weapon swapping that an addon can do that no human can possibly do.

It absolutely was not. The addon API back then was a lot more liberal then and didn’t have this kind of combat lockout.

You are increasingly hostile towards a complete stranger who posted a non-biased opinion.

Seek help, or at least a new hobby. This one isn’t good for your health.

Thank you.

The point is, you can still do the same thing with a Macro, so why doesn’t the API allow addons to do it? Do you actually have an answer or did you just come here to throw out insults?

So you can dish out insults but you can’t take them?

Please go away.

Two people in this thread so far think ‘an addon doesn’t do anything a macro can’t do.’

Brains are not apparent.

I’m out of here. /thread

I remember addons like Outfitter (might have been after vanilla though) being able to change weapons in combat, but any armor or trinkets had to be out of combat.

That’s not what we’re talking about though. This thread is specifically about weapons.

Yeah, I know. I remember using Outfitter and it was able to swap weapons in combat. You can swap weapons manually or with a macro too. I always found a macro to be the best way for me personally.
