for soloing stuff out in the world, either a ferocity pet for Predator’s Thirst or a tenacity pet for Fortitude of the Bear is nice. it can also help to have a pet with a “defense,” “dodge,” or “triggered defense” ability so it’ll take less damage

for instances, if you’re the group’s only bloodlust-capable class, you’ll want a ferocity pet. otherwise it’s situational. Predator’s Thirst is good for cases where you take small but frequent damage; Fortitude of the Bear is good against larger but less frequent damage; and cunning is more niche for dungeons, but i find Pathfinder useful sometimes

for pvp, the most common recommendation is a cunning pet for Master’s Call, with a mortal wounds ability. so a hyena, a raptor, or a rodent. i see slow abilities mentioned too sometimes, but i think that’s more for the ranged hunters, since survival is pretty good at sticking to enemies

and of course all this depends on what difficulty of content you’re doing. using the “right” pets isn’t quite as necessary for lower-difficulty stuff like, say, heroic dungeons or soloing regular non-elite mobs in the world. a lot of times i’ll run a rodent just because i like them

Depends on what you want to do. Pvp requires some more specific pets then pve. But its really only that way if you want to play at a ranked lvl.

welcome to Hunters!

you can use almost any pet you want. Ferocity pets are the most optimal for SV because they give you good leech. That would be something like your wolf

petopia (https://www.wow-petopia.com/index.php) is a great resource for hunters as it shows every tamable pet in the game as well as what family (ferocity, tenacity, or cunning) the pets are, and the breed (things like Wolves, Spiders, Eagles, Lions, etc)

Any ferocity pet will do really. The leech will be a godsend

You should have an ability in your pets utility button called Beast Lore, you can use the ability to find out information about the beast, like what family it belongs to and if it can be tamed. Tenacity pets are great for taking damage or tanking for you. Ferocity pets are more powerful and do good damage. Cunning pets are typically used for PvP.
