Edit: changed to Surv, but questions still stand I reckon
Had some questions on playing Surv/Ret 2s
-
How can I consistently land more traps
-
How can we live easier against Arms and DHs; they typically go Ret, should Ret pull them into the open so I can DPS better or should Ret stick to pillar? Kiting seems to be the biggest issue, especially against DH, it feels like no matter what we do we can’t get any distance away from them
-
Against double DPS I’ve been playing shackles, and against healer DPS I’ve been using on-use; does this track? If it depends on enemy comp, any examples would be good to hear
-
Ret likes to play double horse vs. Melee cleaves, should they use eye instead? Or stick with shorter cd bubble all the time
-
Our typical CC chain is binding shot, pet stun healer, hoj on dps. Is there a better setup to consider?
-
Is there any situation that we want to go rep
Any other tips appreciated
We’ve been hovering between 1550 and 1600, just looking to improve. Thanks.
I would strongly recommend survival for double dps with a ret. You will have better cc and peels.
Thanks, Hog
What should our CC chain look like typically?
Hoj person ur killing and trap the other. I thought survival could harpoon into trap do it’s free everytime?
Each comp will vary a bit, but in general vs melee / healer you simply control the dps and kill the healer in stun / blinding light go’s.
Tracker’s net, steel trap, diamond ice, and stuns will let you control any melee dps while your ret can run down and solo kill most healers.
Chimaeral Sting sting vs healers after a stun often gets trinket and cds, and I use it every game.

i just harpoon trap on my surv hunter. really easy to land them this way. sometimes i’ll trap if they’re slowed, in a fear, stunned, etc. But a good majority of my traps come in the form of harpoon.
I mean you’re likely going to be playing diamond ice and trapping DPS to peel. Your kill windows are mostly just going to be crossing stuns; your stun on the healer and hoj the kill target. You really do’nt need trap off because if you guys both have damage the stuns are more than enough to win the game.
Therefore the diamond ice is just used with steel trap to help you kite and live while you buy time between stuns.
I mean there are a million ways to get out of harpoon traps. Holding global to stamp roar on druid while hunter is mid air, ground flesh on sham, pre saccing / freedoming on pal, death on priest, port / encap on MW.
Harpoon trap is hardly the most reliable on surv against better healers.
But again I think you mostly play diamond ice and use it to peel and just win in cross stuns. The trap off is overkill if you line up damage properly.
Thanks, guys
In a short queue session after making the swap to Surv and doing some more research on the spec we went from ~1570 to 1650 pretty quick and still working our way up
