Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse - Tips and Tricks

Like it or don’t like it, the undead are swarming over the land. I’m not here to debate Blizzard’s wisdom, I’m just hoping we can use this topic to help each other survive with strategies we’ve learned. Please add your own, and leave the debates to the many many many existing topics.

Avoiding ganking while flagged:

When going to an event like Nathanos, never land at the most likely flight master. If I were a stealther with bad intent, that’s where I’d go. Instead fly past or land short and fly the short extra distance. Depending on where you are you can use this as an opportunity to let your PvP flag expire.

Avoiding landing in the middle of a ghoul invasion.

Same strategy as above. Don’t fly directly into your main capital or immediate nearby town (Razor Hill, Goldshire, etc) Cataclysm added plenty of flight masters at minor questing hubs. These places are far less likely to be infested. You can even plan out your flightpath so you overfly the capital and get a look at the situation there.

Avoiding logging in to a ghoul invasion.

Whenever you log out in a city, make sure you’re on a rooftop or piece of geography that can only be reached by flying. No building interiors are safe. Instanced areas like the Deeprun Tram may be safer than open areas in cities, but don’t always count on it.

Dalaran is your friend

Wrath Dalaran has an auctioneer, banks, and rarely will you encounter a zombie.

Zombie griefers want numbers, so go where they have less opportunity
If you are sitting in the main auction house of Orgrimmar or Stormwind during this event you are basically asking to get scourged (I can blame the victim because it’s a fantasy game). In Thunder Bluff you can do your auctions while sitting on a flying mount. Most people don’t even know there’s two auction houses in Silvermoon, and who is going to go to the trouble of attacking the Exodar?

And the most important tip of all…

Always. Always, be nice to your Paladin friends.

Please add your own ideas below. Thank you.

Also, if you do become a Ghoul, and then log out, when you log back in you will be dead at the Spirit Healer, but if you log out while you are infected, but have not changed yet, it goes away!!

If you get infected. Finish the rare as quickly as possible or if you are not doing anything important just try to get out of combat as quickly as possible and then exit game for the debuff duration so you don’t get affect it by it.

If you’re doing the quest to kill 12 scourge, infected players don’t count.

and to tag onto this, if you’ve tagged the rare before you log to beat the infection timer (run away to get out of combat) the loot will be sent to your mailbox

One question I have - Does this zombie event have any sort of reward? Or should I just not waste my time with it and just do other stuff and avoid the whole thing?

I would hate to discover later on that there is an achieve for getting killed by a zombie while hopping in a circle and pulling a green lever in Darkshore.

Oh theres a quest? Do you pick it up in Argent Tournament Grounds?

You should get the quest automatically.

Zombies can’t fly. Fly to a building and snipe away. They can whack you from beneath a single story building though so be aware.

Option #1: time spent logging off, waiting for the debuff duration, then logging on again

vs.

Option #2: time spent being converted to a zombie and, if you don’t want to play a zombie, explode yourself and run back to your corpse.

I’d pick Option #2. But usually I don’t pick either. I just play being a zombie until the uninfected take me down. lol

I usually detonate in a graveyard to get an instant rez.

Careful doing this…
Don’t fly up somewhere if you are infected, because if you are changed, and then you log out, when you come back in you will be dead, and your corpse may be too high up to reach without flying, so you will have to take the Rez Sickness!!

With the sickness I just go to a flight patch and log off. Come back on and the sickness is gone. Also Darlana seems pretty zombie free as well as the zones In BFA. I was being as jerk once. Got inflected and become a zombie during nathons quest trailer today explooded myself right in melee range.

Worked at Crossroads and Darkshire where zombies were killing the quest npc. Felt sorry for the melee dps. lol

Only one infected player was smart enough to fly up before he was transformed into a zombie. He exploded and infected me. So yeah, playing a sniper is not foolproof.

I found Darkshire far more difficult than Crossroads.

Just did not even bother playing. forced pvp is not my cup of tea. So I did the only opt out I had.

The quests give an achievement and stones to trade in for catch up armor.

The ghoul thing has no real purpose other than mindless fun.

If you have a second account, make a new character and put it in Chromie time.

Have 2nd character invite you, and hit party sync.

You are now in a low level zone where the zombies can’t get to you. Of course it doesn’t work in SW/Org or the BFA zones…

How about enjoy it? Get your friends and go land on building in towns and have fun taking them out. Last night was interesting as all hell. While we were zombing away, fighting the groups trying to eradicate us the horde then showed up and then it became a battle of 3 armies. It was a blast.

I think the problem is that too many people have this theme park mentality that is hard to break, so when an event like this happens they are immediately turned off. The game can be so much more than doing quests over and over and over and over and over into infinity.

Does anyone know when this even actually ends? And is there going to be time before launch to log in after it’s over?
