Survival rework, or new spec

One of the coolest things I’ve seen in an mmo like guild wars is weapon swapping to change a classes abilities. Would be awesome if instead survival work similar to warriors in the past where you stance dance to change the move set for ranged dps and melee dps.

Pro:
-Gives ranged and survival compeltly different dps rotations instead of having a akkward mix of both atm.

Not entirely sure what you mean with the title of this topic, considering the context of the post itself.

Do you want them to rework current SV so that it’s essentially two specs in one(changing between the two depending on what weapon you’ve equipped)?

or…

Do you want them to add a new spec for the sake of getting a version of “ranged Survival”? Followed by also reworking current SV to focus more on the aspects of melee.

Giving stances that give a full rotation whether you are in range or in melee. Like rouge stealth, or warrior stances in the past. This could be added to survival or make new spec that works like that.

Only way Id like this is if aspect of the hawk swapped you out for range and monkey made you go melee.

Hmm…

I have my doubts that this could be worked out to any degree of satisfaction.

Either way, the ranged version of current SV would be awfully close to how current BM is designed to play.

Like the idea as long as both ranged and melee weapons are displayed on character at the same time and the melee part is still superior

There’s a good portion of the community that enjoyed stance dancing on warriors so it could be relative to hunters.

With that being said, I think blizz is trying to simplify the game and keep it tighter from a balance perspective. Adding in this type of mechanic seems to go against the current game design so I’m not sure if this would be implemented.

I’ve only tried guild wars for a few levels, did weapon swapping feel fluent and simple or was it bind intensive?

My only concern would be that SV in pvp (and what could be somehow facilitated in PvE) has a uniquely fast paced shift between melee and ranged play. Needing to change stances could make that cumbersome if not done correctly.

Convoluting msv into melee/ranged is just a headache and balancing nightmare waiting to happen. Blizz won’t do it just like they wouldn’t do it for gladiator spec, and for good reasons.

Either establish a fourth spec or change msv back to rsv.
I wish they would make gladiator a 4th war spec, but that won’t happen.
Or they could make a new pole arm class with gladiator, msv, and [insert new idea]. Then make hunter surv ranged again. Honestly, that would be the best way to go, but blizz will never do it.

Honestly.
I tried playing SV with a ranged weapon while leveling for a bit and it occurred to me that all but 4 abilities are already ranged.
SV probably could be a ranged spec that utilized melee utility abilities (justifying Harpoon).

And it honestly wouldn’t be that hard for the weapon to be a bow, with a “fake” melee weapon the hunter can mog for melee with.
These are all things the game is already capable of doing.
If you use a melee ability before choosing a spec (while equipping a bow by default in starting zones), your character will swing a fake ax weapon.

It wouldn’t be that crazy or hard to just give SV both aspects. It’s already a spec capable of moving in and out of melee range rapidly.

I worry that the true issue with SV is that no devs are willing to work on it. Half of the SV Legendaries were just Azerite traits.

half of all legendaries were azerite traits lmao. stop trying to kill a spec just because YOU don’t like it. plenty of other people do. this post is bad any post saying to rework sv is bad.

“plenty” lol

The spec actually has a good rotation that mostly works, but it does need some tweaking, and it’s clear it didn’t get that in SL.
The “rework” I’m calling for isn’t that drastic, the rotation itself largely stays intact.
But I’m saying the ideal design for the spec is to be able to play as both a ranged and melee spec. Allow range for when there’s no way to move into melee range, being a melee hunter is fine until you end up awkwardly standing around waiting to attack mid-combat. Encourage playing in melee range either through increased damage or by putting the utility abilities like Muzzle at melee range.

SV’s legendary situation is bad because the Legion Legendaries were designed around a very different spec - one that was, frankly, broken. So a lot of the Azerite traits that should have been made baseline were instead made Legendaries just to hit their quota. By default, the spec is a little less polished than it was in BfA because of this.

The recent buff to SV helps the spec’s damage, but it doesn’t solve the rotation issues caused by losing Azerite Armor.
