Survival mode server

How cool would it be to have nights literally as dark as it is in real life, and having to supply yourself with torches just so you can barely see anything but the your toon aeound you? This opportunity would, in my opinion, instead of making negative changes that im sure no real vanilla player would want, but would make classic even more vanilla than having the boring let up nights. I think thats happened before in another game but not sure…memory draws blank now. Anyhoo, what do you think of this idea? I can understand if your all for no changes 100%, thats why i came up with a sorta-solution to add this in a survival mode server. Where things are more realistic and takes more time to get around like having to actually eat something or you die from hunger, and only being able to carry one bag which is the standard starter one. And then of course the called purists can have their complete no changes server. I believe this is perhaps a really fun experiment that can turn the tides on what can bring out the true spirit of vanilla.

Is the only difference here, you get less bags and have to eat?

make death permanent. That is what “survival” means in other games.

That would be a hard pass from me boss

What if there was a special type of server where I can smash trees with my hands, get blocks of wood from it, and build garbage houses with my cubic shaped wood blocks!??!

An Ascension type server (random abilities) would be neat but I just want some good ole classic atm

Or a server where you run a city, and have to manage taxes and emergency services. Some type of simulated city…

Nah…i have more ideas for a real survival server

  • running for too long will make you run out of stamina forcing you to walk for 5 minutes

  • no flight paths

  • unseen ghosts would wander around during the night ganking people who are near them

  • all dungeons would require a key to access to instead of just waltzing in

  • paying a good fee just to level up

  • killing mobs would have a chance to inflict a sickness on you, reducing all stats by 5% for 10 minutes

  • more graveyards (not spirit rezzer graveyards, just actuall graveyards) that sometimes have zombies spawning out of them

Im sure i can come up with more wild ideas but thats only just a few of my entire list i dont feel like listing.

Having to skin non humanoid mobs in order to get stuff to sell from them.

… this feels like trolling. We are here to talk about classic servers. I would say take this crap to the general forums, but we all know you know that they wont consider your ideas to the extent that we will. Have you seen the people making a case for a high elf race in retail (Named Ripped)? It’s insane, but thats what it takes to get ideas considered there.

Anyway, no, survival would be a new idea—a change, which belongs anywhere but the classic forums.

Someone was super impressed with the Rexxar Hunter quest in Legion.

A fun quest, but that’d be an incredibly tedious MMO experience if that was everything. I like the idea of very dark nights that would make light sources from items actually mean something, kinda. But, you know

No changes.

I’m all for this idea. Hardcore is pretty cool but maybe there’s also Survival.

Darkness: You have to use a torch to see where you’re going. In night time you have to use a torch to see where you’re going or you will stumble upon hordes of monsters too high level for you or you will have a harder time finding the right path for the quest. Caves, mines and certain abandoned castles is a must.

Hunger: The need to eat. This would include all the food you can get at inns and food vendors. If you don’t eat it can start giving you a debuff that makes you weaker, lowering all stats by 30%, if you do not remedy this in time you will die. Of course logging off you can stay safe from it. In case you died from hunger, you will be brought back up 30% of your hunger but you better run out to get food in time or it’s back to the grave. The higher the grade the more the food recovers hunger. If it’s hardcore than it’s over for good.

Thirst: Thirst you have to drink. Mana or no mana. All the drinks from Refreshing Spring Water to Moonberry Juice are all applicable, the higher the grade the more it recovers thirst. Getting too thirsty will give you a debuff that slows down your movement down by 30% making it rather inconvenient and eventually you die if you don’t remedy it. You return with 30% of your thirst or if this is hardcore it’s over for good.

Weariness: Your character has to sleep every now and then. Therefore inns and certain beds can remedy this. If you don’t sleep, your health and mana no longer recover unless you eat or drink. Not treating this will eventually kill you. Sleeping only takes about 5 seconds of talking to an innkeeper or a bed. Certain thistle teas and brews can actually reduce your weariness as well.

Temperature: Staying around hot locations like Searing Gorge and Tanaris can get you very uncomfortable and staying in them too long can reduce your hit chances with attacks and spells, staying in them too long will cause a heat stroke and kill you. Cold temperatures on the other hand in places like Winterspring can make you cold and give you a debuff that stuns you every now and then called shivering. Getting too cold will cause death. There are ways to remedy all of this such as wearing warmer armor or wearing less armor in hotter areas. Also certain drinks, crafted recipes can reduce heat or increase body heat to counteract the effects.

Bag Weight: Carrying too many stuff can slog you down reducing your movement speed. Make sure you don’t carry too much or at least not too heavy things. There isn’t a time you will be stuck in place (because that can be too brutal when you HAVE to throw something valuable away) but you can either slog your way back to a bank/mailbox or Hearth back.

Inns: You can now sleep at inns. Sleeping in one will cost you but heals up weariness, thirst and hunger. Might be cheaper than buying a stack of food and water but you can’t carry your inn with you.

Will never happen, but I would love to play that version of WoW.

Great job, OP.

they should always bring back that true darkness they had for the night when you needed to use a torch at night to see.

I play a lot at night irl, and time flows like it does in real life in the game. I HATE not being able to see, in games. I don’t care about the realism of it. I modify the gamma and brightness to be able to see. It’s not fun.

What if it there was a server where you get to create you’re own theme park for traveling adventures.

Sort of like owing and operating your own Darkmoon Faire.

We could call it “Attraction Capitalist” mode.

These are the “you think you don’t but you actually don’t” half-baked ideas just like full loot pvp or hardcore pvp servers that don’t actually work in practice.

I’d be down I want to fish to not starve, based idea
