horrible takes/opinions
I understand this but even if not currently or soon but perhaps in the future or in future expansions, as a new role is what I’m asking to rate the idea on.
How is brewmaster “unfinished”
That said if I were to give a non-dps spec to hunter I would be tempted to make it bard healer - not because of ffxiv
But hunter, as ranger, has semi-druidic elements (strongly represented in Sentinel obviously), as does bard generally (for example LOTRO’s Minstrel). Plus there is that old saying about music having the power to “soothe the savage beast, soften rocks, and untie the knotted oak”, i.e. a thing that fits the idea of a quasi druidic endeavor.
Plus it also fits the image of the wild child attracting animals by playing music to them, a common enough mythological motif.
(That said I admit shaman is already kinda wow’s bard)
Yes, I’m sure there wouldn’t be any relearning necessary to pick up a completely new role. Survival hunters would just log in on patch day and immediately be able to tank “at the top of their level”.
I mean seriously, do people even listen to themselves?
see, in my mind, not being the one getting punched in the face would make it easier to “survive”
I am pretty sure most people have alts.
And other than hunter, the most played classes are Paladin and Druid, both do-everything classes.
Players who like to tank are already playing tank classes.
Changing a DPS spec to a tank spec isn’t going to increase the number of tanks available for PUGs.
What will happen is that people who already play multiple tank classes will have another option to tank on, and people who like to play DPS hunters will have one less option available to them.
You’d be taking away from hunters who like survival but don’t want to play a tank, for a minimal (if any) increase in the number of players who are willing to tank for PUGs.
If you want more tanks for PUGs, consider why players may be unwilling to tank for PUGs.
Better take: BM hunters as a tank spec.
Hunters already have a range spec and can have a pet and petless option. SV serves as a melee spec (and it’s a fun spec…dunno why people trash on it).
BM could be a unique tank in that they pick a pet family and instead of having the pet, have all the family and role actions giving them customizable utility and defensive options. It would be a tank spec that brings hero/lust.
It would do nothing to add to the available tanks for pugs. What people need to freaking learn after years and years of being told is THERE IS NO TANK SHORTAGE! INSTEAD THERE IS A MASSIVE TANK GLUT!!!
FFS, go look at group finder for raids. The groups are all 2/2 tanks or they’re fresh or holding out for signups that are small groups that may include a tank and healer or whatnot. No life mythic tryhard raid guilds very rarely need to recruit tanks. Many tanks are “forced” to go DPS/heals until a spot opens up.
Effing tanks are so easy to play, forgiving for mistakes, and more than sufficiently powerful that people often do world content stuff as a tank. I recently did a world boss that had 10 out of the 23 or so people as a tank…0 healers because why the eff would people willingly do world content as a gimped spec? Not so with tanks who suffer in single target damage somewhat but more than make up for it in AOE and just raw durability and ease.
People don’t do meaningless queue content as a tank for multiple reasons. It does not mean that there are no tanks. There are effing plenty of tanks. Way too many tanks even. You fix/address the reason people avoid queue content as a tank. Adding 10 more tank specs just dillutes the overall representation of tank numbers into all the varying specs…not suddenly changes people into deciding queue pug tanking is what they want to now do.
Okay. This is incredible.
not every class needs a tank spec. leave hunters as is
Top of their level meaning playing WoW as a tank as it is one of the hardest roles in the game.
Tolkien elf fangirl is a huge cliche and all but also I know exactly what parts of Tolkien the nerds at bliz were borrowing when they wrote ancient elven history (and they definitely know the deep lore of it well beyond LOTR) - hence why I sort of like the idea of a reference to LOTRO for any future bard.
If not a class, a spec is a compromise?
I wish blizzard did big shakeups like this. But they don’t. Ots rearranging deck chairs on the titanic with these guys all the time. The two major chnages i can think of are Augmentation and Survival going melee.
just… no, survival isn’t tank
Do you mean as tank?
As tank? What do you mean?
Im just saying Blizzard should make more bold moves.
nah, the only thing i would change about survival is to allow them the option between a dual wield build or a 2h build…however, hunter 100% should get a 4th spec that can tank
Even more so for surv since they already nuked and remade the spec once. Still salty about that as an old surv main.
I really don’t see the problem with pure DPS classes and I don’t get why people want to “fix” them so much.
