Survival hunter simplified

Something that bugs the heck out of me is that in SoD melee hunter is super fun, with Flanking Strike playing a major role in its rotation, not to mention dual-wield. Add similar mechanics to retail along with butchery and fury of the eagle, and you have a solid core of abilities. REPLACE bombs with Lacerate, and we are pretty much set. The last thing to do is rework Coordinated Assault to be a proper cooldown, compared to Wings, pillar of Frost, True Shot, Bestial Wrath, and many others. In my opinion, it is one if not the worst CD in the game imo—lastly, the right side of the talent tree. Oh God, we do I even start. Rework spearhead into something that can be more useful in types of content, INCLUDING m+, and very importantl, make it so you don’t need 3 talents nodes to make it effective. (BTW, this ability is awesome in PvP)

no thanks keep SoD in SoD

Yeah I am more or less in agreement with you. It feels so laughable that we’ve been asking for a NON-bomb build for SV and dual-wield since day one of the rework from rSV to mSV and have been utterly ignored.
Then a couple of devs get togheter and do a little pet project called SoD and then it’s suddenly there. Not perfect but we got actual melee SV hunter with dual-wield. Aand then back to being ignored in retail.

For SV I want 5 things and then I’ll just shut up.
1: Dual-wield.
2: Actual melee oriented combat, hate the damn bomb spamming in melee range.
3: Rework all the “capstone” talents, they are god awful.
4: Fix all the broken talents (barrage for example…) and lower the cost on all/most 2/3-point nodes.
5: Change out the myriad of %dmg to ability X talents SV have, and add actual talents.

Why have this mentality?
SoD is hands on experimental creativity.
If something works why would we not want it incorporated?

I would guess that he is one of those wonderful people where if they don’t like something they don’t think it’s worth adding or wasting resources on. God awful mentality to have.

That was my initial thought. I believe some of the melee hunter runes in SoD are great. Dual Wield Specialization is one of the things that most hunters want implemented. Add Melee Specialist to the mix, and Boom, you’ve got something cool to work with. Obviously these need to be expanded upon to make it slightly more interesting

I agree on bombs, they’ve simplified bombs, but in doing so, they’ve now shown just how meh bombs really is. There’s already a comment on the feedback thread from someone that’s done some testing and it’s an overwhelming spec at the moment.

It’s neither particularly experimental nor creative in practice, though?

Following its model would both leave less room for experimentation in builds or in practice, let alone creative problem-solving in encounters or in preparing for them.

It doesn’t, unless the goal is degenerate play. And BM is only two or three times more complex than what the OP is suggesting, so I don’t feel we need to kill SV to support that cognitive niche.

…Melee Specialist makes Raptor a 3s CD 70% of the time and current Raptor 30% of the time but with effectively a non-resource (Mana) as its gate. How is that remotely “cool to work with” compared to what we already have via a current RS bound by an actual resource (Focus) and KC?

Aye. WFB has always been garbage, while WFI has been pretty enjoyable. Give me any other rotary mechanic with equal or greater opportunity for preparation and capitalization, though, and I’d have gladly take the bomb-less version of it even now. (Though admittedly I do actually like aiming the conals.)

A version of SV that the main objective of the rotation was to keep Mongoose Fury up while keeping uptime on DoTs would be interesting side play-style for SV. WfB is kept in as it’s the only ability that distinguishes Survival Hunters. Without the explosions the rotation is very lackluster.
