Survival Hunter Rotation. How is it?

Looking for a fun class to play. I liked BM last xpac but, the rotation was boring. How’s the survival rotation and what does it look like? What’s the difference between wowhead and Icy Veins rotation?

It’s fun and dynamic, but it depends on what you want out of it. Single target is where the spec really shines, and it’s all about maintaining dots while dumping as much focus into mongoose bites as possible. Maintaining uptime and not focus capping can be difficult in movement heavy fights.

AOE is decent and there are talent builds to optimize your AOE damage, but the rules don’t change too much unless you are running latent poison. You’ll keep your dots up on as many targets as possible and keep carve on cooldown. You’ll also have to alter your rotation based on which bomb affect is active or comming up. For instance, you’d delay using your volatile bomb until you have serpent sting ticking on multiple targets.

Give it a try. You’ll love it.

Personally I fell in love with it

PVP talent choices seem to be all over the place and there doesn’t seem to be a clear “go to” build like other classes. Just do whats fun and feels right.

It’s hectic with mongoose but fun

Most of those who try love it, those who don’t usually have an agenda. It is our most fun and best performing Specialization.

I liked flanking strike better then Kill Command and the issues kill command brings. FS felt more like you were working with your pet, the new talent isn’t worth taking other then that I feel like survival is an amazing spec.

Survival is pretty fun. Mongoose bite makes for really fun damage windows. It actually feels a lot like the updated shadow priest.

Latent poison is fun for sustain cleave, not so good for burst aoe.

It’s a bit of fun. And I think it works in single and multiple target quite well. Nice thing is the taking all the damage while youre throwing bombs and ae sword swipes

Try the addon MaxDPS. Works really well for Survival single target rotation. For AOE just add Carve on CD and tab around to apply dots to more targets.

Speaking for myself, I’ve always loved Melee Survival since I first tried it in Legion, and I feel that the BFA version is a strong refinement over the Legion mechanics.

Though Mongoose Bite as a talent still seems weird to me. :grinning:

the problem with surv is that it’s a lot like feral - why would you bring one? if you have an open braindead melee spot, or you’re a raid leader and you can play whatever you want without having to worry about your raid spot, you can play one.

that said, it’s actually pretty fun right now. the optimal ST spec is to take mongoose bite which makes pure ST dps kinda boring, but you can take Wildfire Infusion and not lose too much dps which spices up the rotation a lot.

for aoe, throwing bombs all over the place and big dick swinging your polearm around with Carve feels really good, it just feels great to chuck bombs all over the place and see the damage numbers poppin up.

obviously i main BM because i like having a raid spot but if i was ever offered a chance to play surv in raid i’d take em up on it.

Why would you not bring one? I really dont understand your logic.

With the way you’re thinking why bring a BM or a MM? We are dead last in logs and ANY ranged brings more dps, utility doesnt mean anything in a raid. Bring another demo lock or ele shaman.

bm hunters have an immunity, they can cast while moving, they have an execute, spirit mend is very good, and we have higher hp than almost any class due to the increase we get from our pet.

surv has no execute, no increased hp pool, can’t really use their immunity to soak anything because they’ll have to leave melee (the cd making mongoose bite ranged sort of helps with this but bm is still better), they are another melee class which you already bring less of, have no spirit mend, etc.

the fact that you typed “utility doesn’t mean anything in raid” indicates to me you might not be thinking this through completely

Literally none of your points mean anything…

You bring a warrior because he has shout. You bring atleast 1 mage because they have int buff…those are important buffs… You dont look for a BM hunter cuz he has a few more hp…or he can spirit mend…

Survival and BM have the exact same defensive. Turtle stops us both from doing damage who cares if the melee is out of range, survival STILL out dps BM.

Execute?? Lmao…um ok sure survival has no execute but once again survival still out dps BM and survival actually scales…

Wait till actual logs come out from mythic next tier and I dont mean the sims actual logs of survival in say 430 ilvl VS a 430 ilvl BM let me know who’s LEAGUES ahead in dps.

If you’ve an interest in Surv, give it a shot, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

You’ll always find people who start comparing BM and MM. Fact is, performance is currently strong, and the gameplay very enjoyable and fluid.

There are talents that outperform others, but also options in your AoE. The thought of Survival not containing utility is quite frankly stupid and narrow minded as the player has access to both magic and enrage dispel, Lust, CC, soaking, etc.

And they’re a melee spec that is able to leave their close quarters while still contributing to dps.

dude telling people to be a stalker… not cool dude not cool =P
