It would be nice to see the Lone Wolf passive apply to SV hunters. A few abilities would need to change, but the gameplay in my eyes would be a little better.
The Lone Wolf system may even allow for the old school RPG Ranger class, without having to be “just a archer / ranged DPS”, or “just a fighter / melee DPS”.
Thoughts?
Edit: sorry for my spelling - changed “Loan Wolf” to “Lone Wolf”.
The main three pillars to the hunter class are ranged weaponry, pets, and traps.
If we take away the pets, what does that leave survival with really? Traps that they have less of a focus on than they did in Legion?
It removes too much of the fundamental class by doing so. The pet is necessary for survival’s current design. If you divorce the pet from the spec, it wouldn’t really be much of a hunter at all any more, but rather something shoved into the hunter class.
I think a solo Hunter within melee reach of an Elite mob, with no pet to help manage threat, is likely to take some very hard knocks, and should there be 2 Elites, those knocks are likely to be fatal.
The old Survival spec wasn’t so much defiled as it was eliminated, I think.
The MM spec wasn’t far behind, but has recovered enough since to be recognizable as the Iconic MM spec.
Making Lone wolf part of survival would be pretty much another nail in the coffin for hunters. Since vanilla having a pet was a staple of hunter taking it away from another spec would be like taking shapeshifting away from all druid specs except one. I personally believe Marks should be the only spec that uses lone wolf and if a hunter wants to use a pet they shouldn’t be hindered that much by it.
