Survival Hunter Leveling?

I miss my DK, would Survival Hunter be close to an Unholy DK while leveling up?

Any good builds for survival?

Any crafty tips and tricks?

Hunters are a ranged class, no matter what people try to say. You can deal some melee but you will absolutely not be doing much damage that way, and foregoing your bow (which is much more damage) is going to hurt you quite a bit in the end.

There’s not really anything close to an Unholy DK in vanilla. DKs are like a melee Warlock.

survival is only good in pvp for deterrence and the root resist.

I’d say warlock is closer to the original unholy… both had several dots, both get pets… warlock isn’t a melee class, but the original unholy wasn’t focused on melee either, at least not like blood dk.

Unlike the other posters in this thread, I am not just a hater.
Can you be a death Knight
Yes you can!!!

While leveling up your Hunter you typically want to finish off the mob in melee anyways. This will allow you to keep up with your weapon skills as well as loot while Targeting the next mob and pull faster

BM is by far the best spec you can use while leveling and if you want to go with theme, there are plague bears and creatures like that to look the part. I would not suggest survival.

Get a two-handed sword
Use macros to rename you abilities like serpent sting into blood plague, raptorstrike in the scourge strike, and Hunter’s Mark into deaths command. ETC

And have fun playing the best solo class in the game

Survival isn’t actually a strong tree until you can go deep in it, it wouldn’t be good for leveling. BM, on the other hand, gets your pet to be quite strong early in the tree and it gets very good deep in the tree.

You really should get to 31 BM as fast as possible and then start going for 20 in marksman to finish things out. That’s the cookie cutter hunter leveling/dungeon spec and will get you to 60 the fastest and easiest. You respec at 60 to start raiding but if you don’t see yourself raiding, you could just stay 31/20/0 if you want because it’s really good for farming and general “outdoor” gameplay, it’s also very strong in PvP with Intiimidation and Beastial Wrath (this spec gets weaker as the phases keep rolling out and people gear up more, it gets left behind because your pet can’t scale, so this will be worse in PvP as time goes on).

0/21/30 is a spec later on, but I wouldn’t try to run this right now. It’s strong in PvP but it is also based on your gear, because 5/5 Lighting Reflexes gives you 15% agility buff, so this spec is about scaling, the more agility gear you have, the stronger you get with this spec. By Naxx, this is actually a raiding spec due to this reason (although the real raid spec would be 20/31, dropping Scatter in favor of Wyvern since it can be used as CC in some raid content, you can still PvP with this spec but it is a bit harder without Scatter).

If you want to try it for leveling, I wouldnt go further than the improvement on WC and/or traps to immobilize. Switch back to BM or MM. This is for leveling purposes but can be handy in pvp. Not saying its ideal but it can work. Going any deeper in Surv isnt going to help as you wont have gear to scale with the AGI increase. GL!
