Survival Hunter in TWW S2 M+ Feels Ruined – Can We Fix This?

Ya no idea what devs think they are doing, they keep buffing and fine tunning dev favorites but demolished/ Ruined Surv hunters, was amazing season 1 for mythic plus, all it needed was their shield MM gets now, and a slight dmg boost for aoe they throw bombs no reason they should be dead last aoe class in game now. The entire spec is broken to worse dps and they are making love to MM but due to cast times feal the worst to play for anything high movement.

Yes went from one of the most original fun to play wow classes left in the game last season to devs destroying it completely. And no buffs or fixes its a spit in the face.

Yep. Doubt it will get changed as well. I mean, the spec overall isn’t awful, at least in PVP. Mid at best, but it lost all it’s flavor. Rotation is completely stale and uninteresting. Honestly feel as boring as it was in WOD.

(the only thing changed was fs and butchery being a choice node and this does not impact the play style very much at all)

Surv is my DPS alt, currently 3k io on it

I personally don’t think we’re THAT bad. Unfortunately 90% of the playerbase looks at raw overall DPS numbers and come to their conclusion there, but the context behind the damage matters. We do pretty solid priority damage with a bit of funnel and more often than not I compete/beat meta DPS specs in boss damage (not including adds where other specs pad their meters with pointless fluff add damage.

With that being said, we do need some AoE help. I agree giving buffs to explosive shot would help a ton, but I honestly think our CDs are the abilities that need help. Give Coordinated Assault a built in explosive shot for example, and then change Butchery from reduced damage over 5 targets to reduced damage over 8 targets. I think these changes would help our burst AoE on big pulls without making our ST that much better

Kill Shot needs to be a more impactful button as well, point blank. Either a simple buff or let it hit a 2nd target for half the amount or something.

This is currently a talent that no one takes:
Sic 'Em

Talent

Requires Hunter

Kill Command’s chance to grant Deathblow is increased by 5% and Deathblow now makes Kill Shot strike up to 2 additional targets.

Your chance to gain Deathblow is doubled during Coordinated Assault.

Deathblow
The cooldown of Kill Shot is reset. Your next Kill Shot can be used on any target, regardless of their current health.

Yeah I guess I just mean it should be baseline.

If Merciless Blows was buffed by 50% right now despite changing 0 gameplay these same people in this thread would say it’s back to being extremely fun

Once Blizzard enforces that people balancing the game MUST play the classes they are balancing, things will improve. They don’t care though, because we just suck it up and continue to get rejected in keys OR reroll another class that’s currently at the other side of the scale.

It’s just MM.

BM is also C Tier now in M+. https://mythicstats.com/dps

BM is 21/26 and Surv is 22/26.

Survival provided far fewer buffs to range than melee in Vanilla (Eagle Eye and Sniper Training both launched on MM, and the spec initially launched with a melee attack capstone), and it’s been melee nearly as long as ranged at this point (2004/2006-2015 vs. 2016–2025).

It’d be like expecting that Paladins still have to refresh a Seal with every Judgment or refusing to believe that Discipline largely heals through damage dealt.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind the choice node between Flanking and Butchery if…

  1. Terms of Engagement were more usable (say, if Tactical Advantage were baselined and ToE were swapped to that position), and
  2. the Flanking/Butchery choice wasn’t such a clean ST/AoE split that for Sentinel Flanking is a non-option in M+. I’d rather have seen Flanking Strike deal piercing damage or baseline the old Exposed Weakness… anything to make it feel and perform differently (higher priority focus or even funnel) while keeping it situationally competitive in M+ regardless of Hero Spec, even if not the best for simple raw overall damage.

FWIW pack leader takes flanking strike in m+ for better priority damage and frankly having butchery in m+ as pack leader just immediately gives way too much going on

I didn’t play in vanilla so I’ll take your word for it. I briefly played Hunter in mop/wod/legion time frame.abd didn’t really main it till SL.

Neither of those sound terrible. I’m typically not in the preference of losing buttons so I liked having both.

PL’s overcrowding of Butchery does make FS more competitive, but it’s only really that and PL’s already being taken over Sentinel only for priority damage / damage controlability that levels it out at all. And even then it’s still pretty 50/50 from week to week (53% FS / 47% Butch as of a minute ago) looking at the top PL SV M+ rankings.

Which… is actually tons better than I had first expected, tbf. Still would prefer a less clean split, though, and for FS to see use on Sentinel, too (where Flanking sees literally 0% use).

I’d prefer that. Just meant that I could understand the change if they had provided the otherwise lost mobility and gameplay-involving-cleave in some other way.

I found SV competitive up until 13s, where the meta classes are now pretty consistently outperforming me by 15-20% in overall DPS (with me parsing 97-99).

Don’t forget Survival’s biggest issue which affects PvE and PvP, Survivability.

Currently Im the in top 30 for Surival Hunters in SRGB and I’ve decided to climb up to 2400 in SRGB and I got to say, Survival just lacks tankiness. I realize Bicmex and others make it perform better in 2’s but it’s not at AWC. It’s all rogues and feral(which is cracked rn) in that slot

I’ve consistently completely outplayed my opponents, and will still be sweating despite their mistakes. Such as against Rogues and Paladins who trinket ice trap (this is the equivalent of trinketing a sap). There are few exceptions to wear survival is favorable in a 1v1, Ironically it’s mostly against Hunters.

Now in the War Within it feels everyone I fight is just 15-20% burstier, heals more, or is just that much tougher. I’m struggling to “Survive” most fights. Survival lacks the true ranged damage of it’s siblings but has to compete with the same defensive tools. It needs something more.

Also Dark Rangers defensive talent is leagues above Packleader. Can we please do something about it?

Yes. You really start noticing at about 12s, and it just gets more embarrassing from there.

Just got a myth track bow in my weekly vault… now I have a decision to make. Might be time to abandon SV, as Blizzard intends. Sad day.
