If Survival is to to remain melee, double down on jump attacks similar to FFXIV Dragoon jump attacks. The spec tree has a lot of redundancy, jump attacks are cooler than charge and would add more flavor/fun to it.

I think that survival hunter should be a tank spec.

I’ve actually been thinking something similar to this as well. Maybe not make it jump attacks but I would like to see disengage/harpoon have more interaction options. For PVE having a talent that would give us an AOE bleed from the spot we disengage out of then being able to harpoon back in. It could help with our sustained AOE damage and also make our rotation more fun/interactive. The interaction between carve/bomb CD reduction also needs to be tuned. We get to a point in our rotation where we just have nothing else to press for AOE.
It would be nice if it was a talent so if we wanted we didn’t have to take it for pvp. It could break traps.

Honestly Survival being a tank would make sense just on the fact that it was called “Survival” but I would be interested in what the lore/fantasy would be behind this? Maybe you dodge a ton and your pet gives mitigation buffs/staggers damage and gives self heals. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like Blizz has any Hunter Devs to give slight buffs let alone a complete rework.

Please don’t make survival a tank. I love the spec as is. It just needs a little bit of love.

Yeah I hear you, I am just trying to see what else can be done. I really enjoyed BFA SV Hunter where it was SS, Crows, Bombs, then harpoon in to go ham on the person. Now its a clunky rotation with redundant talents/abilities and being in melee range in this meta is just dangerous. It’s just not fun right now with the run and gun style of play.

Yeah, which is why I’m hoping they’ll do something with our disengage to give us more movement based DPS options. Almost like they do with Demon Hunter having damage on it’s fel rush. DH also has good damage on it’s throw glaive build. They could really add a little of that to survival and the spec would feel amazing.
Obviously, it would be a total rework.
My ideas would be something like this:
No pet.
You have 3 aspects that you would choose during a fight. Aspect of turtle for massive damage migration. Aspect of the snake for aoe poisoning and getting aggro from mobs. And Aspect of the leech to self heal. You would rotate through those aspects as needed.
Just a couple of ideas…

The only thing I think most of us would agree upon, is the fact that the spec called Survival should have more “survival” than the other two specs. That doesn’t happen, and it speaks a lot of the failure of the melee legion rework: they thought making SV melee, because melees usually have more survivability. In fact, this is what I believe might’ve been on their minds when in vanilla/tbc SV had more or improved melee interactions (to give it a name). So Survival was the spec that could deal better (or less crappy) with being stuck in melee range back in the old days, it felt, then, right making survival melee, but they’ve failed and change the spec in these 6+ years to the point sv is essentially a ranged hunter that for one very crazy reason decides to go into melee to die.

Yeah, agree. On one hand, they’re strong in arena so you wouldn’t necessarily want to give them more survivability. On the other hand, Mastery heal and Leech isn’t saving them in PvE outside of their longer cooldown defensives. Having a taunting pet is a huge defensive, but that doesn’t translate well into group content. So I can see how that can be hard for them to balance around.
Kill Command does feel kind of clunky on Survival though, a Lone Wolf type talent for Survival that increased defensives and replaced Kill Command with a focus generating melee attack might be nice.

No thanks. If you remove pets from Survival it’s no longer a hunter spec. No pet no bow whats the point?

Yes, i dont know why more people dont see this point. Its just a mess!

Strong in arena? Lol what are you smoking!?
You run a bow as survival??? Hunter = Bow//pet. Core parts of the class.
I’d rather see them add a 4th spec of hunters with throwing weapons, like Troll headhunters or some kind of throwing spear class?

One of the main reasons I found my way to this spec is because I’m such a fan of dragoons (going all the way back to Kain in FFIV). I mained DRG in FFXI, and I was pretty bummed when I realized that DRG in FFXIV wasn’t going to use the wyvern pet (I get it, but I was still disappointed). SV reminds me a lot of playing FFXI’s DRG, and to be fair, while they aren’t “jumps” per se, both of our big cooldowns are gap closers that feel similar to jumps, and we have harpoon.

Not meta, but they aren’t bad, most people are putting them in A or B tier list which I would consider strong.

we will get wailing arrow as survival and be forced to use it instead, that is a change that makes sense to a hunter dev
