Feels like I take much more damage as an Evoker than when I play my DH and DK.
Maybe I’m not utilizing my defensives correctly.
What’s the general bread and butter strategy?

First of all, you’re not crazy, evoker are super squish. Of course, the best strat is to avoid being hit at all, but also try to be proactive with your defensives, make sure you have all your stamina/avoidance enchants, and push your ilv for more armor and health. Apart from that, be quick with pots and hover your mouse over your hover button.
In short, the go-to strat is to pretend you’re a housefly and dodge the swatters.
My go-to strategy is to hover as long as possible, kiting things as you go. Fortunately, Devastation naturally kites things well since their blue spells slow the targets.
When you’re out of hover charges, that’s your time to hunker down and brace for big hits. Renewing Blaze is very potent when used preemptively and appropriately, allowing you to effectively ignore a period of damage so long as the buff is active and you are able to heal back up from the HoT without taking more damage afterward.
If you anticipate really tough hits, then Obsidian Scales + Renewing Blaze is a powerful combo to ensure you are able to live and still heal back up.
Don’t forget to use Landslide to root your enemies from a distance, giving you the opportunity to charge up a max rank empower spell without worry, which will typically make quick work of a pack of mobs.
My two cents, learning damage events is the best way forward. A defensive has to be used before damage goes out. Basically need to be proactive instead of reactive. Its one of the major skill gaps from a bad evoker to a good one.
What’s the play vs casters / hunters?
RDJr voice:
“Survive…!”
as aug you spam azure strikes with the talent in the aug tree to make it do more dmg and a chance to echo the hit. spam for clear casting procs and cast the eruptions when you are able. press spacial paradox early and root after the second gap closer if not using for the first setup
Thank you all for your feedback I have been practicing and been getting better at the dragon
But also it seems weird that Blizzard would put survival talents in strange locations most noticable is “Inner radiance”
Do we REALLY need to choose between a self heal or a kick?
Strange.
