Survey - Why have you lost interest or stop roleplaying?

LONG POST WARNING

This survey is about why many have left or have lost interest in the roleplaying aspect of World of Warcraft. This is an open survey where anyone who feels compelled to respond can do so. Whether you are currently subbed or not, no longer roleplay in game, never roleplayed in game, a new player interested in roleplay, or an existing player wanting to get into roleplay.

I am no actual scientist, this is not an actual scientific study. I hope to post my results and discuss the results in the form of a video essay, forum post, discord post, and/or charts. This began out of personal fascination and frustrations with the lack of focused discussions.

These reasons came from forum posts, discord server discussions, and talking with other players about their ideas or personal experiences. Descriptions are based on the general ideas that went into the initial reasoning.

If you have suggestions for the survey please keep it polite and respectful. If you wish to respond to another participant in the survey, please do so respectfully. People can feel deeply connected to their character(s), stories, or the game, please respect that connection. Follow the general guidelines with responses.

Response can be here publicly, or sent to me privately. Please keep responses to one per player, this is off honor as I have no real way to fact check this. if you do not wish to respond or participate in the survey you do not have too, and you do not have to tell me that you do not. If you do say so you will be counted in the results.

Please list what aspects of these categories have led to YOUR reasons to stop roleplaying or decrease your interest in roleplay. Do not add reasons you think are affecting other players. You don’t have to agree to every part of the description to use the reason. Feel free to add your own description on why you choose that reason. If none of these are reasons that you relate too, please respond with why none of these reasons match yours and what your reasons are. If you have no reason to have concern or do not have any concerns over the current status of the roleplay community please respond by saying so.

Its a combination for my lack of interest in RP here and the game as a whole.

Category 1: 1; 3; 8 (not enough, toxic to lesser extent. Terrible combo )
Category 2: 4; 5 (balance); 6; 7 (pugging/carries); 10 (lack of support/Warmode as a concept); 14; 15; 16

Category 4: 1; 4; 8; 9; 12; 13; 17; 23

I was huge RP-PvPer and that entire play style, to me, has been trashed and ruined by Warmode, story, imbalance, and a lack of interest by others.

Simple: This game stopped supporting role play long time ago.
Still in the forums for the next 10 days or so, because I am playing FF14, which is much more RP friendly.

Category 1: For a while I was kind of frustrated with the lawsuit issue, and the changes that they were making to what seemed like they were smoke screening the issue. I kind of stopped caring about the microtransactions, considering a lot of other games do that too.

Category 2: Solo content in Shadowlands, especially in the Maw has been one of the main reasons why I have kind of gone off retail upon reaching 50-60. I know it’s supposed to be challenging, but it’s difficult to get through while being hit left and right by mobs that hit like a truck. Classes feel weaker than they did in Legion again, and it’s difficult to progress when group content gives you minimal rewards. Roleplay also feels hard to come by, since not many really want to roleplay in the Shadowlands.

Category 3: As mentioned above, I kind of feel disconnected with the story, due to it taking place in Shadowlands. Granted, the story started off okay, up until 9.1 when the true plot was revealed. And like in BfA, I disliked the 180 whiplash of the character personalities and character development in the story as well.

Category 4: I have ideas for roleplay, I just haven’t really thought out how to execute them in this point of the timeline, like I could in Vanilla or TBC Classic. I also have a habit of making a lot of alts with different roleplaying ideas, which really hasn’t helped my roleplaying progress either. And my two roleplaying partners have been on and off the game lately as well.
