I’m only going to talk about PvE because that’s what I know.
Hunters are one of the weakest classes in terms of defensives and self-sustain. They’re probably only comparable to healing priests (slightly better than) and shamans (probably tied with or a little weaker). They’re notorious for being amongst the first to go flop in content where there’s large amounts of damage taken.
Hunters require the most support from healers in cases where they are targeted by mechanics and especially rot damage. We lost a lot when the hunter’s mark and feign death conduit went away.
BM does not benefit from most of its leech. SotF and FotB are fine, but they have fairly long CDs for what they offer. Same with exhilaration. They aren’t particularly strong and it’s very easy to run dry on defensives during intense fights.
Also worth mentioning that turtle is the worst immunity in the game. Unless pre-popped to cheese or briefly negate a mechanic, It functions as a DR that pacifies its user.
Our defensive toolkit just does not hold up compared to most classes’, and it’s an active liability.

I think one thing that makes it a lot worse is it seems (at least from my experience in SL raiding) that there’s an arms race of player mitigation/self-healing and global raid damage. In WotLK sources of damage are largely predictable. Modern fights feel like layers upon layers of unavoidable raid damage. We’re dropping dead to attrition much of the time because we still have more or less the same self-healing capability we had 10 years ago in MoP while most other classes have significantly gained.

I started leveling a warrior before my hunter i feel so godlike in content that normally kill me.
But yea warriors are significantly more on demand heals and it feels great and crazy thing is there a warrior forum right now asking for more heals…arms race is still on and hunters need start begging harder as bepple says.

To have an attack that heals 20% my health feels so good with warrior and on such a short CD to heal with that i hardly have use my other heals along with my 5% leech and healing on 65% heal bleeds from deep wounds mwah so fun.
Lol if only hunter could heal from doing damage and wasnt so weak and nerfed.
