Support this tweet/LFG Addons

man I’m just messin with ya. Just having my first cup of coffee this morn. Looking for going around in circles for the third day in a row.

That is true, doesn’t mean it’ll change anything though, it’s like the “no addons” guys who are trying to fight against the devs who purposely created game for addons.

However you are much more level headed then the guy who said “we shouldn’t have addons, play the game like blizzard intended!”

you just have to realize you’re fighting a losing battle on that one.

I don’t think all addons should be banned. However, I don’t think networked addons should be allowed. I am not saying play the game the way Blizzard intended. This is obviously the way they intended, as it’s what they made. I simply do not agree with allowing networked addons, as they may introduce unintended side-effects.

Even if they did do that, remove the addon channel, this addon would still function at like 80%, most of what it does is parse from the chat log and you can’t really kill that part because that would also kill dps meters and a whole host of other things.

Pretty sure DPS meters could parse the combat logs. Not sure about threat meters and if that is an estimate based on damage or something exposed by the api or what. I have no doubt things would break, but there are probably workarounds for many.

It’s really the way systems can be bypassed via networked addons, and how things like that black list addon can be created. The type of automation that can be introduced by networking concerns me a bit.

Lfg Addons seem like they won’t ruin the community…however a closer look reveals that these types of corporate shortcuts have already ruined the community in retail, (outside of individual guilds)

In retail, you may say i need to join your group. And they will reply, what is your gear score.

Right there they have taken the humanity out of the world. And turned it into corporate bs.

You may wonder why would a LFG addon ruin the social aspect? Because it lets people not have to chat and make friends, and they just insta queue and then say hi, bye, and leave.

Socializing is the core of the community and it’s propped up by difficulty and challenge. People who are undercutting that should go back to retail if they don’t understand. Retail has all these features and more!! So why play an old game with less features?

It seems trivial but, it’s fundamentally different than retail’s empty shell of a corporatized world.

Good example.

At the same time, why bother, the only advantage the addon is giving you is seeing through the spam, it doesn’t automate anything. I’ve even given Ravicus the option of asking the author to remove the auto post feature in place of a button to post for LFM if it bothers him so much.

We had black lists up to wazoo in vanilla btw, and blizzard said they would remove automation if it went against the spirit of the game from the time.

You can’t just simply queue up with this addon tho.

I don’t think addons should have access to any chat channel. Since all they create is spam, why allow that?

blizzard ruined the social aspect through queueing, gearscore is not the addons fault, it’s blizzard for making ilvl>most

I appreciate that. I do. I still think any group finder add on is against the spirit of classic, but this is a step in the right direction.

This addon will actually post less then your avg. human being. Humans spam, robots only do what you tell them to.

If someone uses an addon to spam you suspend the user not ban the addon.

I can definitely agree with that, but I also feel that allowing LFG style (and other) addons is leading down the same path that brought us retail. To me that does not seem to be in the spirit of classic.

Still, this is supposed to be a social game, which to me means humans communicating without assistance from robots. Of course I know programs only do what you tell them to…

Can you point out which specific feature of the addon is not in the spirit of classic and why?

Automated tools in general. Replicas of the “QOL” systems that have been added to retail over the years.

Except nothing is automated except the posting for the LFM which I’m sure can be removed in place of a button if it’s a point of contention.

The reason you can not disable the automatic posting is not ensure people without the addon are not left out, I think that would be a bigger problem than someone “spamming” in chat every two minutes :frowning:
