Super Fast Leveling

A lot of things are being said about how fast everyone can level up now that the change has happened, but do we really want to reach max level in one day? I would say the success of Classic has shown that people like a long and slow leveling process. How can you stop and smell the flowers when you are racing along at 100mph?

Sometimes faster is not better.

I want to reach max level in one day.

I don’t personally like this, but I suppose I might be a minority.

It most definitely is for old, outdated and irrelevant content. After 15 (16?) years of levelling, there’s a lot of us who don’t want to bother with it ever again. Even getting to max lvl in a day is too long.

For what it’s worth, I tried going back to Classic to relive the glory days and I got about 4 hours in and just went “yeah nah, I haven’t got time for this”.

Hmm, depends, the difference is that in Classic, leveling is part of the game overall and in retail it’s just a core RPG mechanic that stuck around since a time when leveling was part of the game but if removed it would barely matter.

So yeah, slow for Classic, fast for retail in my opinion.

And for you, there is XP locking. Enjoy! Smell those roses, friend!

Well, if you want slow leveling, then Classic is waiting for you.

Yes. We do want fast levelling in retail.

Classic is classic, less content by far than retail. Also i dont think the main draw to classic has anything to do with slow leveling. The most common reasons ive heard or read are “old school” abilities and the talent tree, the game before a ton of systems or borrowed power was introduced , the original zones, raids and instances offering challenge again.

I have not heard many go “…and i love the one month leveling process” .

Of course there will be some that like it. But my money is majority do not list the slow leveling as why they wanted to play classic.

I had a lvl locked char at 60 that i used to run vanilla dungeons and try and get all the purples. I had quite a collections, but I can’t see the vanilla dungeons on that char anymore, and chromie doesn’t give access to them either. /sadface

I enjoy Classic for what it is, but in retail I’m done with slow leveling. It’s been over a decade. I’m leveling my fourth priest now; the sheen has worn off. Don’t want it to take a month.

Listen, we can stop pretending like Classic was a success for the general playerbase now.
It wasn’t.
Its clear that the long and slow pace of Classic was refreshing for some, but not conducive to years of enjoyment for many others.

Half of Classic’s content is leveling, which is the only thing that needs to really be said here.

Having a more compact and direct leveling experience is very good for this game, and that is what they accomplished here.
Speed is just a side result.

If this system existed in Classic, I would still be playing it.

But every time I log on there and I realize its going to take me another 40 hours of play time to get the spells I want to use, I just immediately lose interest.

Most players are not interested in month long commitments towards characters that are then struggling to find something to do at end game.

They are still there. In fact, they even added instance portals for old world dungeon locations on the map this patch!
Chromie certainly does give access to them as well.

Yes, because retail has changed tremendously. End game is no longer, “Queue for 5 mans and raids now”. End game usually has a story that is building every few weeks. New end game powers to unlock and improve. Your “leveling” really doesn’t stop now.

This encourages new players to get to end game quickly, as well as alts not being a major hassle. I for one, love it!

Ehh. I dunno, even with classic’s issues and roughness I still feel it’s the superior game from an RPG standpoint (at the moment, can’t speak for SL yet). If the graphics weren’t so foxing crusty and there weren’t any guild/friend attachments keeping me on retail, I’d still be raiding on there.

That being said, it’s true that many don’t have the patience for the old school MMO leveling grind these days.

You’re complaining about this after posting you turned exp off. Stop crying all over the forums. BTW here is your post:

Vanilla is not fondly remembered for its slow leveling. I don’t know where you got that idea. The biggest quality of Vanilla’s leveling experience was how expansive and mysterious the world was; the concept of going in any direction and not knowing what to expect. Classic kind of captured that, but ultimately people play Classic for different reasons than they did Vanilla back in 2004.

More importantly, this game is 16 years old. We’ve all done this content 20x over. As much as I love leveling, I don’t really care to keep doing it for 40+ hours per character. That is not fun to me.

It is ridiculously fast which is a good thing for those of us that have played for many years.

However, I can see myself having an army of alts in various different zones only to get them to 50 and realize that I have to go through SL zones for the millionth time. Oh wait, I don’t want to do that. I’ll have an army of alts to level when we can finally unlock pathfinder. Then they’ll be a few patches behind in gear, etc.

You’re still only going to have a few characters to really “play” at the end of the day if you like end game. Casual/farming people will have a field day with this change though!

I feel like this was easier to do when I wasn’t an adult and had way less responsibility. Leveling through Classic was just how I remembered it, but it took much, much longer because I couldn’t feasibly dedicate as much time to leveling like that anymore.

You want instant gratification and hate classic. got it.

If Classic’s original pace of leveling is so fun I’d love to know why you can’t form dungeon groups and everyone’s boosting to 60 via mages.
