In PvP, Frostfire is vastly superior to sunfury.
Is there a way to have orbs persist through death within PvP, such as BGs. Currently, building 4 orbs just to die and lose them means you basically never use your phoenix.
Also, within PvP, arenas specifically, building orbs is a process and it would be much better if we started with 2 orbs when starting rounds, arenas, or BGs.
These are the changes I would like to see to hopefully see sunfury used in PvP more. Also buffing fireball damage in PvP so frostfire bolt doesnt hit triple its damage.
And even frostfire is a total D tier meme
Please help fire mage!

Sunfury is hilariously bad. Between the phoenix not moving and being easily LOS’d, it spell- “stealing” things you don’t even gain, gravity lapse STILL not being a stun in pvp despite having to give up DB for it…there’s almost no reason not to just go Frostfire, which at least gives you some slows.
I get that Fire is probably hard to tune in PvP because Combust is so frontloaded and doesn’t require (individual) setup… but right now we do soo little damage as a consequence. Our PvP talent choices are also so wildly lacking compared to what other specs have access to. (The ring/nova choice node is also just terrible.) Glass cannon only giving a 30% amp to an easily kickable fireball at the expense of 15% of your health is nuts - this needs to either be deleted or apply to Pyro as well. Poly shouldn’t heal to begin with. Improved Mass Invis is insane in requiring you to not take mass barrier. And Ice Wall is the buggiest ability in the game, with pets able to roll right through and fears also making you go right through it. Just…ugh.

Completely agree with this post on every point.
If Blizz isn’t going to buff pyro damage, at least include it in Glass Cannon.
Poly shouldn’t heal anymore. Etc. etc.
The problem with mage is that we have too many legacy abilities that were GREAT 20 years ago, and are still perceived that way, despite many other class abilities long surpassing ours now.

I think they should just make the change already to tune crit the same in pve and pvp. Rebalance the whole game around it if you have to.
Specs like frost dk and fire mage always end up in weird places in pvp because of their reliance on crit, which cuts their damage profile down significantly when facing players vs other content.
We have the opposite problem - crit is almost entirely useless for Fire, when all of our damage is in a 100% crit window. Barring random DF trinkets we’ve wanted to avoid crit at all cost…you have to spec into Combust converting 75% of your crit to mastery just so it’s not a completely wasted stat.
Why is crit useless? I’m trying out Fire Mage for fun and it seems that crits reduces the cooldown of combustion which is a good thing right? More combusts, more crits. I don’t know if it’s actually good but it FEELS great lol.
It’s because during combustion you crit 100% of the time, making the stat’s primary function entirely useless during the peak of your dps curve.
You might say “oh, but crit converts to mast”. Yes, but at a 0.75 rate. Meanwhile if you had allocated actual mastery the conversion is, well, 1 to 1.
That, plus shifting power already helping you reduce the CD of Com even further makes crit a really bad stat.
I play melee, and i feel like frost just can kite and defend itself so much better with double block and constant freezes and slows while doing all of its damage from instant cast, i dont see a world where fire can keep up with frost unless it does significantly more damage.
Fire should be blazing speed back imo, maybe make it so blink gives you like 2 seconds of blazing speed or something. Cauterize just isn’t enough needs more defensives especially against hunters who can basically purge all of your defensives with the exception of block.

Fire has so many abilities in it’s rotation that always crit no matter what your crit stat is: fire blast, phoenix flames, scorch when target low HP, fireball when their high HP and during combustion literally every spell you throw is a guaranteed crit. On top of that fire has talents like Fire’s Ire and Critical Mass that gives you crit in your tree.
So it’s just not a great use of secondary stat allocation to stack crit on you gear. You’d be giving up too much haste or mastery both of which are very good stats for fire as well.
