The spec is dead last.

Yes, Icy Veins… But still… Dead freaking last.

Spellslinger isn’t much higher. It’s because Arcane mages can’t pump AoE - we are priority tunnel with cleave. And… well… somebody has to be last
Maybe if Blizzard could fix Arcane Explosion and our AoE talents i.e. Energy Reconstitution we could pull some decent AoE numbers, but until then we’re a single-target-wonder spec.
Edit: It’s also worth noting that the list there only has 3 parses for Sunfury Arcane, which is not a good sample size. People just aren’t playing Sunfury Arcane.
Which is a real shame. It is such a fun spec – in theory.
I think some specific buffs to Sunfury Arcane are needed, like surgical buffs to make it more enjoyable and probably more played.
The fact our arcane barrage is getting a 10% buff (going from what, 33% spell power to 36% spell power?) is not enough, because we are going to lose our 6% buff to Arcane Blast and Arcane Barrage (from our Tier Sets) AND an additional 20% Arcane Barrage buff from the 4 piece set.
Ever-growing the gap.
Just beating a dead horse at this point, but even Magi’s Spark doesn’t copy the arcane missile (all 8 hits, only the first hit).
Data does seem to indicate that Sunfury has fallen behind both Frostfire and Spellslinger for Fire and Arcane mages.
The other issue is that mages who are performance-dedicated are generally choosing to go Frost, or if they are staying Arcane, are opting to go Spellslinger. This causes a data bias as it creates a bigger gap between classes and specs bigger than what they would be when all played optimally - in other words, data has both a balancing gap and a skill gap to factor in as higher skilled players tend to flock to specs that perform better in sims.
So while this may look bad, usually in reality things aren’t as bad as the data first appears. I’d be interested to see what sim reports have to say about different specs under different situations.
I still remained mostly concerned about Arcane’s lack of viable AoE options and a few sore points in our ability and talent design.
