So, all of this talk about Zovaal and his plans has really made me try and sit back and piece it all together coherently. I want to make sense of it all, so, fellow GDers, let me know if I’m missing something along this path.
Ultimate goal: reshape the universe according to his will. Straight forward enough I suppose. I’m sure he had many plans and was exploring many options (hence the Dreadlords out there doing their thing, getting info, and spying). So, to accomplish his goal, he needs to:
1.) Break free from his chains.
2.) Acquire the right vessel/tool to get his sigil from the Arbiter, as well as the other sigils of the First Ones.
3.) Find Zereth Mortis and get there.
4.) Activate Machine of Origination in the Sepulcher of the First Ones.
5.) Profit.
So, what he had to do for that to work:
1.) Break the Arbiter (assumption is he needed Argus’s twisted soul to do that).
2.) Funnel souls into the Maw to gain power and break chains (needed Arbiter busted to do that).
3.) Rip the veil between life and death apart to get the proper vessel/tool to him (needed a tool on Azeroth to do that, i.e. Lich King, but Lich King refused along the way and eventually had to get Sylvanas to do it).
4.) Use vessel to get his sigil from the Arbiter (Anduin).
5.) Find the Sepulcher of the First Ones (had to get that info from Korthia).
6.) Use the power of Azeroth’s world soul to power the Machine of Origination in the Sepulcher of the First Ones.
Is that accurate enough? Am I missing anything there?
Sounds right. I wonder how his plan plays out if the Scourge take over all of Azeroth under an obedient LK?
Scourgeify Azeroth then use her to soul break the Arbiter thus funneling souls to Zov. Umm I’m stuck.
His goal is to Unmake everything except the Shadowlands for being too free willed.
His plans had backups just for this:
His first Plan was to have Argus end all existence including Sargeras and Azeroth.
When Azeroth beat back both the Burning Legion and the Horde he immediately saw the potential of Argus dying as well as the potential held by Paladins.
Paladins only started going to the Shadowlands after the Human Paladins were created in WC2 so he found an easy method to get the Sigil for the Archon as soon as possible.
As such Zovaal had Denathrius start the Anima Drought while also kidnapping the Primus and stealing the schematics for Frostmourne and the Helm of Domination.
His first choice for a Paladin infiltrator refused to play ball and furthermore had failed to capture every Paladin Soul within Frostmourne thus allowing Uther to warn Bastion of Arthas’s true nature.
Bolvar also refused to bend the knee and thus Zovaal was forced to ally with Sylvanas and bank on Azeroth’s denizens getting strong enough to kill Argus hastening his entry into Zereth Mortis.
If they failed Argus would destroy all Cosmic Realms except the Shadowlands and knock out the Arbiter himself and throw Zovaal’s Core into the Maw before taking the fight to the Archon and Winter Queen while Zovaal tracks down the Primus’s Sigil and breaches Zereth Mortis and uses it’s tech to reshape the Cosmos in favor of Death.
What unites Hogger with Deathwing with Kil’jaeden with Old Gods with a titan soul (Argus) with Zovaal? All can be taken out with enough mortal DPS. Just punch something hard enough, and it will be defeated. This is true even for things that really seem like they shouldn’t even be punchable.
“Heroes, before you face the Sha of Pride, you must purge yourselves of your pride, and find humility!”
“How do we become humble?”
“Simple, you just have to punch “your pride” hard enough in the face.”
Ah, slip of the fingers. Too many similar sounding things out there. I’m just waiting for the Prime Ones to show up next
When they said that this was the “end of Book 1” so to speak, I hope they mean it. I have fond memories of MoP, and largely it was because it was new and rather unrestricted. I hope they go the route of starting a brand new plot line that can exist on its own merits without having to be tied the whole way back to WC3.
