Suggestions for starting heroics?

So I feel theres some pretty massive disparity between difficulties in heroics.

So far Ive tried two. Blood Furnace, and black morass.

Black Morass felt like a pretty good start, sone tense moments but nothing ridiculous.

Blood furnace was a nightmare, those adepts in the start are a nightmare. Not to mention the gauntlet.

Mind you im not asking for nerfs, Im asking is there a “path” so to speak on difficulty for starting out and working your way in harder?

I got thrallmar revered first cause i was farming the healer mace off the last boss of SH, and got the healing ring from the rep vendor

I didnt expect blood furnace to be so hard, and am now wandering if Im doing heroics out of order?

Generally speaking the hardest heroics are the helfire ones.

Ramps was easy.

Blood furnace takes like 2 hard cc’s for those unslowable orc packs.

I’m a healer and one heroic we brought a rogue he was using maces with the mace specialization that chance on hit stuns and omg between his mace stuns and cheap kidney it REALLY helped smooth out incoming damage to the tank. Maybe consider that

You’re probably going to have to actually CC things for now. Most of my pugs are CCing 2 out of 4 mobs per pull let’s say.

If they pull 3 things the tank usually dies. I didn’t look at their gear but I just figure being a pug they’re usually not going to be geared like our raiding tanks are.

Ramps is the easiest heroic, period.

I wish i could start heroics. People saying 650 spd isn’t enough. Even though my 4k incinerate crits instantly get all the threat whenever i actually find a heroic. Tanks want more than they can take smh

1k destro warlock probably would not be able to even cast anything without taking threat

To be fair, those are two of the hardest heroics. Especially BF, which is in my opinion, the hardest.

Gear up in Karazhan before doing heroics. I know it sounds backwards (from a retail perspective), but that is the intended gearing path.

CC isn’t just suggested, it is nearly mandatory. Knowing which mobs are the most dangerous becomes necessary, and they need to be dealt with accordingly.

Such a nice change.

We were running 3 shamans a warlock, and a warrior for bf. Probably could have suceeded with fear and charm, and 3 bl but we got bugged out of the gauntlet room :frowning:

So Kara first then heroics? That does seem kinda backwards to me, but i guess ill work on my attunements

Your thinking of Kara as a raid, it has the raid lockout but it’s more so a long 10 man dungeon that’s between lvl 70 dungeons and lvl 70 heroic dungeons in terms of difficulty

Heroic Bloodfurnace is the hardest heroic in tbc lol and if you don’t have a warlock, it becomes a whole lot harder.

Or a good hunter.

I didnt find any of the heroics exceptionally hard. Some pulls are interesting but going in with a strategy makes everything fairly easy. Easiest heroic by far is MT if the tank has shadow resistance gear. Other easy ones are all of the coilfang, AC, Botanica and ramparts. Honestly the only thing that makes heroics hard is pulling like a fool, liberal use of hard cc or kiting makes most - if not all - pulls easy. OHB right before the final boss is tough, but hibernating one of the 4 pack trivializes the pull for example.

Group composition.

Here is how I do things. (Prot pally here)

  • Gear: I get all non-heroic BIS pieces I can. I don’t want to be carried per say, so I put in proper effort.
  • CC CC CC. Sheep / Sap / Trap / Banish
  • Routes/Skips. Certain dungeons allow certain skips. Good know it ahead of time.
  • Slows/combat CC for tank. Nothing beats having a frost mage in your group.

Some heroics are flat out harder. Ramparts is quite easy. Mana Tombs first boss will destroy tank unless very well geared. Shattered Halls can be kited to death.

As tank, I can say that most of the success really depends on me. Do I move out when I get Mortal Strike on me? Do I move out of AoE? Do I LoS as much as I can? etc etc etc.

Group utility is everything. As a shamy, you got slowing totem. While warriors cannot kite as effectively as Prot paladins, you can still group-coordinate when kiting is done.
