Suggestions for Blizzard on how to reduce Priest button bloat

Lots of other posts have made arguments for or against “button bloat”. That’s not what this post is about. Instead, this post aims to provide some suggestions on HOW Blizzard could go about relieving some of the Priest’s button bloat.

Dispel Magic - Baseline. Active. 14% base mana. 40 yd. No cooldown.
Removes 1 beneficial Magic effect from an enemy target [Discipline/Holy: or all harmful Magic effects from a friendly target. Successfully dispelling an ally refunds 90% of the mana spent. Successfully dispelling an ally also increases the cooldown by 4 sec for 8 sec, stacking up to 2 times].

(Note: Replaces Purify. Dispel Magic (talent) would also be replaced.)

Shadow Word: Death - Talent. Passive.
Casting Shadow Word: Pain on an enemy below 20% health also deals ([Discipline/Holy: 212.5%, Shadow: 297.5%] of Spell Power) Shadow damage. If the target is not killed by Shadow Word: Death, you take backlash damage equal to 5% of your maximum health.

This effect cannot occur more often than once every 10 sec.

(Note: Various talents would need to adjust accordingly)

Power Word: Life - Talent. Passive.
Casting Renew on an ally below 35% consumes 100% more mana to heal the target for (1035% of Spell Power). This effect cannot take place more often than once every 15 sec.

Resurrection - Baseline. Passive.
You may cast Flash Heal on fallen allies while out of combat. Doing so increases the base cast time of Flash Heal to 10 seconds and brings back the target with 35% health and mana.

Mass Resurrection - Baseline (Discipline/Holy). Passive.
The base range of Flash Heal is increased to 100 yds and ignores line of sight when using Resurrection, and Resurrection now affects all party and raid members within 100 yds.

Power Word: Fortitude - Baseline. Active
Infuses the target and its party and raid members with vitality, increasing their Stamina by 5% for 1 hour.

Passive: You automatically apply Power Word: Fortitude onto yourself and your party and raid members within 40 yds for 1 hour if they don’t have it already.

Mind Soothe - Baseline. Active
Soothes enemy Humanoids and Dragonkin in the target area, reducing the range at which they will attack by 10 yds. Does not cause threat. Lasts 20 sec.

Passive: Enemy Humanoids and Dragonkin within 40 yds of you behave as though affected by Mind Soothe toward you and your party and raid members.

Having Resurrection and Fortitude as spells is really too much “bloat” for you? Really?

Ah, right that was probably it, I guess, yep.

Is it really optimal game design to avoid keybind conciseness?

These either can already be done by a help / harm macro, are pretty substantial buffs, or reduce functionality / create confusion when the same spell is doing multiple different things.

Disastrous change for PvP, deathing cc is a core mechanic of priest PvP.

I think you have a skewed view of what “button bloat” is and why it’s an issue. When people complain about “button bloat,” they’re complaining about how many spells are available during combat in one’s rotation. Fortitude and Resurrection aren’t part of that issue. Those spells aren’t an issue, it’s spells that effect your ramp. Shadow Word: Death is like an execute in PVE and having it part of Shadow Word: Pain is detrimental to PvPers. Shadow Word: Death really isn’t the problem either tbh.

What the other guy said, a lot of what you’re proposing can be done already with macros. I don’t kind the idea of spells being like that baseline.

What button bloat?
Give priest shadow more active skills that allow us to do DPS with different rotations, depending on the situation.
Also, we barely have an interrupt, why the single target stun is so hard to get on the talents? We need to lose a lot of DPS or a very good defensive skill to get it.
