I have a strange suggestion. Make wow have an optional subscription with the base game (vanilla/classic) free to play. The expansions and in game shop will cost money unless if one already owns the expansion. Similar to how elder scrolls online and guild wars 2 does it.
This will increase the playerbase of the game and make it more affordable in general and to those who are in school. This will not make the game pay to win. The optional subscription will only affect the in game shop, in game costs of stuff, and expansion costs to be discounted.
What do players think and could add to this suggestion?
I’m perfectly fine with the sub fee as it is. If your having problems affording $15 a month then you have a lot worse problems to be worrying about.

Always prefer MMOs to just have a sub. Anything else just gets scumbag cash-grabby and ends up costing even more than a sub or so limited without the “optional” sub that it isn’t really optional to play seriously without it.

SWTOR is this way; there are just so many things that are locked/limited if you don’t have one.

If you think about it, WoWs setup is probably one of the most generous of any non-F2P MMO. 0 box fees and for just a sub, you get access to like 6 versions of classic & retail up to the last x-pack before the current one.
Heck, you can even pay for your sub with gold so you are essentially playing for free…all without even buying an actual game.

Is the affordability of wow an issue? or is it the quality of content?
I would pay MORE for higher quality content and since my in game time is very low, would likely pay more for less grindy content.
The game is already pay to win… that is the point of GDKP/Leveling/Carry serivces $$ for token for gold for services, blizzard are ok with this (hence why they have not cracked down on it).
I think the more stuff you put in the shop, the less goes into the game. e.g Reward unlocks, back in the day something like the premium TBC classic warpstalker mount would of been an achievement for clearing all TBC content… instead of was a premium $$ reward… which led to /spit for everyone who had it which led to removal of the /spit emote. Even when you don’t think changes will affect gameplay they have consequences that do.

It’s not. From time to time someone comes up with it because they don’t want to pay the $15 subscription for whatever reason. Most folks don’t want WoW to go F2P because every MMO that’s gone F2P now sucks. You end up paying at least as much as you would have for a subscription - if not more - just to be able to play the game in the way you did when it was subscription based.
F2P sucks.

Don’t we basically have that right now, considering you can level up to 20 without a sub?
OP, do you really want to pay $20 per bag slot and $25 per characters to have? Micro transaction can cost alot more that $15 dollar a month than subscription fee.
No thank you on F2P. I’ll just pay subscription fee instead.

You don’t want FTP in this game, or the players that come with it.
You think it’s bad now, wait until you have people that don’t lose anything when they get banned.
