Complain to your Congressmen and state legislature about it, not Blizz and us losers on GD. The latter will get you nowhere.

I wonder how many heads would have exploded if this happened during a D administration and Congress. Just thinking out loud and I don’t want to go there though.

This is, bar none, the smartest response in this thread. Beat’s 'em all, even mine. I should have just said this in the first place and then went on my way.

Oh I do read. I just don’t believe you. Because no one who is level headed would have railed against the OP the way you did.

How do quotes that I specifically pointed out to you fall under that category?

You’re not having a debate. You’re simply trying to call the OP a liar.

So you only read the end with the bold text and didn’t read the beginning where it explains the legislation and never once says every state. Gotcha.

Maybe if you actually spent the time to read the legislation first you would have actually understood the OP and not nitpicked the very end, when the beginning never claimed what you think it did. And which I pointed out.

But I’m done wasting time with you. Your insults and condescending remarks aren’t worth it. Enjoy your day.

You too. And keep in mind that the OP’s post (the only one I had an issue with), still stands as incorrect, inaccurate and misleading. Without cites or quotes.

For posterity, let it be known that CA, and me personally, are not part of the greater “you,” according to some. When the OP says, “you,”, they mean the “yous” not in CA. Or, outside of the US. Those “yous” don’t count either.

Ohhh, shoot. I see right there where Shovelgirl said that by “you,” she didn’t mean “you.” Good day.

I am still confused about the new law because until very recently, few states had it but now it seems like the majority are adding sales tax for online transactions. In another thread a week or two ago someone mentioned a SC decision that opened the door for states to charge taxes for online services. I haven’t bought anything on bnet recently but I noticed it on Steam when I bought 55438754 games during their sale last month.

Surprised it didn’t happen sooner, honestly. C’est la vie.

The subscription itself is being taxed now too - $15.89 for a month now in my case instead of the normal $14.99 it has been forever.

People are stupid.

100 iq is pretty basic, and half of people are lower on that scale.

Bad idea

I think Blizzard is generous enough to allow ingame gold to be converted into WOW tokens then back to the Blizzard balance. It allows the poor kids to play the game without paying the monthly and also allows the players to get some of their money and time back. But honestly, it’s a godly generous feature that I don’t think is good for the company if it’s abused. Think about it.
Gold farmers can farm gold in WOW 24/7 with botting and they can now turn their gold into Blizzard account balance and sell those products for cash? Blizzard will be losing so much money and soon go bankrupt.

If anything, I think they should put more gold sinks in the game to encourage more people to buy the tokens to actually spend the Gold in game, not the other way around.

Something a lot of people never think about … half of the people are dumber than the average.

Because the Supreme Court legislation gave states the ability to charge sales tax on all online transactions for any type of goods, regardless of whether there’s a physical presence of that company in the state. It started with South Dakota vs Wayfair. So there are 45 states that charge sales tax. Those 45 can now decide whether they want to do this or not.

Basically yes, this is what’s happened. More states are now collecting on sales tax where they didn’t before. This is because of a supreme court ruling which occurred in June 2018 (South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc.). The ruling declares that states may charge tax on purchases made from out-of-state sellers, even if the seller does not have a physical presence in the taxing state.

As a result of that ruling many states changed how their sales tax works, allowing them to take advantage of this rule. So if you’re in California, as Breakbeat is, you’ll see no change because Blizzard operates in the state and so sales tax applies to all online purchases there. Same with Texas (since they have operations in Austin). However if you are in say, Michigan, and buying stuff online from Blizzard’s store, before this ruling you would not have been charged sales tax. Now however, you are charged because states can claim that tax even though Blizzard doesn’t have any operations in Michigan.

Yup.
To think the American revolution “began” over a tax on tea.
Now we are taxed on everything including virtual goods.
I will find it hilarious if people finally get involved and tell these politicians enough is enough over a virtual tax.
That won’t happen though. We’re stuck on who has the most toys and who’s generation is “tougher”. LOL
