Suggestion: Restore the functionality of Legion Artifacts

Title. It feels disappointing to go through the Artifact introduction questline(s), only to get nothing in return. The Legion Artifacts stand as a bit of an outlier in this regard; the powers of the Heart of Azeroth can be used in BFA content, the Covenant abilities and soulbinds are still usable in Shadowlands…

Why BFA and Shadowlands, but not Legion?

Some of the artifact powers are in the talent trees for some classes/specs.

And lore wise the artifact weapons have been drained of their power. That never happend to the Heart of Azeroth, iirc anyway.

Legion is entire talent trees that significantly change gameplay compared to the other two, would be my guess.

I liked the artifact system, but hated the artifact power part. I hope they bring back legendary cool weapons someday. So many cool appearances and I think they could definitely expand upon them to add more.

Agree with the OP.

It’s weird that my alts have greyed out artifacts with no traits at all or partially filled due to not doing the retirement quest on them.

When you get one of the artifacts, they should come with all the traits unlocked but they should only work in Legion zones.

Even after they were “drained” they still continued to work and gain more power until the BFA prepatch.

I actually did not know this. I quit shortly after Antorus and missed the first year of BfA due to lack of interest in the story direction.

While I can only go on memory, I dispute this. The last patch of Legion gave us constantly generating artifact power so we could upgrade our dump talent (a base stat increase) endlessly, but when the BFA pre-patch hit they were drained completely along with the stat squish being implemented.

Yeah that’s what I was saying.

The traits still worked and it kept powering up the concordance trait infinitely until BFA prepatch hit in which the powers from the weapons were disabled completely.

not a single druid could say they wouldn’t enjoy being able to dot 3 mobs at once with moonfire. That was awesome

I think they said something at the time about player power being at its highest ever point at end of legion and they didnt want it to be the default progression (or being able to take them into other content) so its purely from a balance point.

Personally I love feeling like I have breaken the game (like running level 11 timewalking twinks), I did it all through MOP remix, felt great.

I just hope they bring back weapons as a storytelling/lore progression thing. Artefact weapons harkened back to vanilla weapon questlines like quel serrar, thunderfury etc I love it when weapons have history and meaning and a progression/story.

I can’t see them doing this for retail but if you really want that “artifact power” feeling, maybe Legion Classic (eventually, maybe)?

It’s probably how they’ll do Legion remix.

Probably because the process of updating them to work for all specs would be a sizable undertaking. Some of the things they buffed either no longer exist, or work very differently than they did back then.

They are much more closely tied to exactly how our classes worked specifically in Legion than the BFA/SL versions are tied to the functionality of their respective expansions.

I mean, besides artefacts, this is also why they disabled set bonuses on old tier sets too. Even if they were a little too scattershot with it. There’s a trinket in AQ40 that functions exactly the same way now as it did in classic (reduces threat by 70% for 20 sec), yet for some reason it says its effects are disabled.

In her latest interview Holly mentioned something about returning to Legion wowhead speculating maybe a legion remix.
