Reins of the Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth was originally designed to be an incredibly expensive goldsink, but these days 20k gold is acquired in maybe an entry level GDKP run or two.
I feel the Reins of the Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth needs to be adjusted in price to be more in line with the gold reserves of the average player. Maybe 200k gold+ instead. This way it’s also truly an elite prestige accomplishment and personal sacrifice for the handful that purchase it, instead of being seen everywhere,
Also remember that when Legion came out and Dalaran was revisited, the devs created a new (bites thumb-tip) One Million Gold Spider Mount to once again goldsink the average retail player’s gold reserves.
Goldsinks are just what Dalaran is all about, and it would go against tradition and the spirit of Classic to not adjust vendor prestige items in value and cost according to current playerbase ability (much like how in TBC-Classic some raids were released in pre-nerfed states to adjust to player skill.)

“I buy gold so gold means less to me!”
I’d say go do the ~160 stratholme solos it would take to actually GENERATE the gold for this in the game but Blizzard decided to ruin that in their vain effort to design something ‘better than dungeon finder’
160 runs for it as it is intended to be priced**

100 hours give or take a bit.
It’s more that others buy gold, and Blizzard has put their stamp of approval on such by saying GDKPs are healthy for the game and they themselves partake in them, so gold means less to the entire economy.

Honestly as someone who has never bought gold I can say I agree that GDKPs are “healthy” for the game. GDKPs don’t actually create any gold. There is no more gold in the game after a GDKP than before. Sure, it incentivizes gold farming bots but so do flasks, gems, gold sinks like the Mammoth you are suggesting a price increase to.
GDKPs just redistribute wealth amongst the players involved. The gambling addons that were prevalent (at least in groups I ran with) during Mists of Pandaria weren’t bad for the health of the game, they just traded gold between players.

Correct! The only way new gold gets into the game is mob gold drop. Selling items to a vendor for gold. Gold from questing and rogue’s picking pockets for coins. Everything else just moves that existing gold around. GDKPs nor the AH actually generate any new gold. Both of those, you need existing gold to buy something.

GDKP value is subjective, I don’t think anyone is wrong for disliking them, but they are ultimately a player made construct so from that standpoint they’ve never had any reason to not be allowed, which is why Blizzard has never done anything about them.
Now one could argue that given the way the game is played in 2022 Blizzard needs to go after GDKPs like they finally outlawed MBing, something they also never touched since it first became popularized in TBC, but did because of various reasons. One could argue that GDKPs being fueled by bought gold is just so prevalent that outlawing the practice would drive down the desire to buy gold and help the game out, but that’s ultimately for Blizzard to decide.
However, the real thing Blizzard should be doing is actually a decent job of policing their own game, but they don’t because it’s all automated. If they actually started handing out 3+ month bans on gold buying or permabans for repeat offenders and actually struck some fear into people about the ramifications of buying gold it would heavily impact people’s desire to play with fire.
Instead all my guildies regularly discuss the price of gold and when they should buy and justify why they buy for XYZ reasons. They don’t talk about it in-game obviously, but they’re not really afraid of doing it because they know that even if they get caught they’ll get a slap on the wrists for it.

20k is still a lot for those of us who DON’T buy gold. I still don’t even have epic flying cause I spent several thousand gold leveling jewelcrafting and buying a bunch of recipes.

And for those that don’t participate in GDKPs? We’re just kinda screwed?

I think bliz should leave prices for every non-prestige as they are, liking 1k flying, 1k for dual spec, that’s all fine.
Blizzard should only target whales with prestige items, which was the original intent of such items.
Charging 10x the normal cost of ANY item in the game on the basis that GDKPs provide plenty of gold is literally the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. You’re screwing over people that don’t partake in them, not to mention many gold-farming techniques have become screwed, as well, and will likely see more in Lich King.

Leveling to 70 grinding mobs or dungeons, then going back to do quests will get you around 5k gold in just quests. Doing dailies on two toons is 500 gold a day. Even if you only do dailies on 1 toon, that is 250 gold a day, so 20 days. If you can’t afford epic flying, that is on you. 20k is isn’t hard to get if you try.
Blizzard unnerfed raid difficulty for classic because players are 10x more skilled now than they were 18 years ago. That really screws over people who don’t follow BiS guides or watch youtubes of boss kills, by your logic.
Which no one does anymore…

Because its more efficient to just do dailies once you hit 70. Gold is easy to make in this game if you want to make it.
No it doesn’t? In Classic, people understood what their abilities did. We had years of Private Server experience, not to mention TBC and Lich King having many of the same abilities. I don’t remember any of my friends (or myself) using any guides for Classic.
It’s not just about having increased skill this time around. We have better technology (computer/internet, etc.) so we face less issues than we did back in 2004.
Did you not see what part of your comment I replied to…?
Why do you nerds want everything to be so difficult. This is a game not an actual achievement. Go out in real life and accomplish something and let the rest of us have fun

Exactly. I mostly leveled via questing. Yes, I did Isle dailies until I was exalted with Shattered Sun, but then I spent most of that gold on JC recipes and the title. Oh well, flying will get faster in WotLK anyway.
I support raising the price to 200k, since this is classic and not original wrath. #SomeChanges
