First off I don’t know if this is the right place for this sorta post but it was the best location i could find. I apologize if i placed it somewhere I shouldn’t have.
I think blizzard/microsoft should really take a look at retails sub model and considering adding a more p2w extra premium like service to legacy content. While I know everyone’s first reaction to p2w services like this are negative and frowned upon I really think it would help for altoholics, new players, or even casuals.
Whether it is rate of drop for old transmog and mounts most of which sit at 0.1% to daily or worse weekly lock outs for legacy raids and heroics for such grinds as reputation or quest items which can take 25 weeks (almost half a year!) to gain exalted or in the case of say heroic karazhan 4-5 days + to do the quests, or Tarecgosa’s firelands grind of atleast 2-3 weeks but can be more than that, it makes trying to “catch up” on old content a near impossible hill to climb.
At this point just doing all the raids on 1 difficulty can take longer than a 8 hours shift of work and not everyone has that much time to just put into raiding when there is arguely between 699h to 3497h worth of just story to get through. that’s 77.6 to 437.125 days if you play 8 hours a day which for the average person is ludicrous to consider to just do the story. even not reading your looking at 48 days at 8 hours a day.
yes I know it is a mmo, and yes i know it isn’t meant to be a game to just sit down and beat but if you have to put months into beating just the story, more months(possibly over a year) into trying to grind reputations and dailies (mostly just due to daily lock outs tho it would still be months just far few to grind all those many reputations repeatedly the same day.) then add in the literal years it would take to farm all those 0.1% mounts and other rare drops. Having to raise multiple alts to get all transmog especially some of those crafting specific ones. And that is all before touching current content. Which means by the time you did all of that the current expansion would basically be done and already old content still keeping you from reaching the new current content for even longer.
With buffs to the hp of monsters in shadowlands, bfa, and firelands raid it also very much increases the time required to complete those content especially the dungeon/raid portions. If they continue to buff older content this way the issue will only get even worse.
So a premium service for those who either don’t wish to spend that much time doing it or would just rather speed it up would greatly help. Blizzard/mircosoft would get the profits from it without it really effecting the state of the game for current content. They could choose a percentage modifier based on a staggered subscription model of pay more for higher rep/drop rate bonus’ or even some sorta of consumable that would all you to on legacy content only reset the weekly or daily reset yourself at any time during the week without affecting the regular weekly reset. This would allow players to literally pay to run the heroic dungeons or raids multiple times a day/week depending on how much they pay. While the addition subfee would be cheaper in the end the consumable item would actually work out to be far faster depending on how much time someone was willing to put into the game.
who knows with all the changes recently and how much the game is improving (in my opinion) and it seems like the powers that be are listening maybe a idea like this could be beneficial. I know me and several of my friends who play would much rather put some spare cash on to speed things up every so often rather that be discouraged that we will “never catch up”
