Malefic Rapture is genuinely the most boring ability in the entire game
It’s just “Okay you have 5 soul shards, just spam this ability 5 times. Okay start generating soul shards again.”
It’s boring, it’s clunky, and it doesn’t feel like an Affliction kind of ability.
Players love those big blasts of awesome damage, those moments when they can unleash their “ultimate,” I’m talkin Obliterate, I’m talkin Templar’s Verdict, I’m talkin’ those big boy slams we love to see.
So hear me out.
Malefic Rapture: What if it had no cast time, and caused your Warlock to swing a big cool scythe, with a bunch of souls that burst from enemies that Malefic Rapture hits. Then, give it a 5-part combo animation and make each Malefic Rapture increase the damage of Malefic Rapture by 5% for 3 seconds, stacking up to 5 times.
I feel like Malefic Rapture should be an ability that players are excited to hit, and having a cool spammable ability that makes us go Grim Reaper mode for a few seconds of combo attacking sounds awesome.
But standing there for 5 seconds to go “Vvvvvv… Boom. Vvvvv… Boom. Vvvvv… Boom. Vvvvv… Boom. Vvvvv… Boom.” just feels clunky and boring and doesn’t give any kind of dopamine at all.
Combat on some classes like DH, Fury Warrior, Ret Pally, Frost DK feels super badass like you’re this omnipotent killing machine
But then you go over to Affliction Warlock, this so-called “Reaper of Souls,” and for the most part you’re kinda just throwing shadowy death magic around and then you just spam this boring ability every now and again.
I wanna see Affliction really feel like a grim reaper out collecting souls for their wicked purposes, man!
You got Demonology with this army of demons and a Felguard, you got Destruction throwing Chaos Bolts
And then Affliction is just “Don’t mind me I’m just gonna put some lil’ crispy DoT effects on the target and throw a lil green ghost ball into them.”
Give me a scythe (Like I had in Legion) and let me go grim reaper on some fellers.
