We all know that GDKP promoted RMT. Even if not everyone was doing it, enough people were doing it to make a difference. So let’s look at why people who did not participate in RMT, like GDKP.
- A reason to continue raiding
- A way to earn gold
- A way to help gear their alts
With that in mind, let’s start a new loot system, in favor of those that are BiS, but want a reason to continue playing.
Let’s earn a specific currency for defeating bosses in raids. For the remainder of this, we will use Gnomeregan as our example.
There are 6 bosses in Gnomeregan. For the sake of using Gnomeregan as our example, we will call this currency “Cogs”
Each boss drops 10 Cogs. At the end of the raid, if you complete every boss, you will have 60 cogs. Let’s have a vendor outside of the instance, or in the major city, who will sell unique items within the theme of the raid.
Gelbin Fizzlesprocket
- BoA item (hands, feet, wrist) - 200 Cogs
- BoA item (head, legs, chest) - 300 Cogs
- BoA weapons - 350 Cogs
- Sack of Gold (containing 30 gold) - 200 cogs
- Unique Mount - 1200 cogs
The BoA gear will be similar to what we currently have available in the game. It won’t scale with your character, but it’ll just help along the way until you are at a spot where you can trade it for better gear.
The unique mount, so that those that choose to, have something to work towards.
And of course gold, for obvious reasons.
Now I know what you’re thinking, where does the GDKP aspect come in? I’m getting there.
Let’s say you’ve run Gnomer a few times and aren’t getting that last item that you really want. Much like Master Loot, FFA loot, and need/greed loot. Let’s add a new option. Bid Loot. When selecting this option, the group will be eligible for a 50% increase in the acquisition of CoGs. Whenever an item drops, this allows players to bid their Cogs for the items. At the end of the run, the cogs spent will be evenly distributed amongst everyone, for use with the vendor, or their next Bid Loot-styled raid.
Adding Gold and BoA gear for alts, we motivate those who want a reason to continue playing after being BiS. By keeping a bid style of looting, we allow people to increase their chances of getting the loot they want, and by keeping all of these players engaged longer, we have a healthier raiding pool for PuGs. We also add some cool things to acquire, for those that are collectors.
A couple of points to make
-
The gear added via the vendor will not drop superior gear. We don’t want to lock BiS behind an optional grind.
-
No crafting materials from the vendor. We still want people out in the world for a healthy crafting economy.
And before anyone says “GDKP is gone, get used to it” I’m sure you’ve already seen me in most of the GDKP threads asking for the threads to be removed. I’m very much over the GDKP spam, and I’m selfishly proposing this so we can stop seeing these threads pop up over and over again.
